Little station in Morgan Hill / Gilroy area, 101.9FM?

Anyone know something about a station in the Gilroy / San Martin / Morgan Hill area that transmits on 101.9 FM?

I did some research and found out about something called "New Life Radio." Nobody, however, ever announces anything there. They never give call letters, station identification nor nothing like that. I discovered it driving along 101 and its range is only from about Masten Ave north to Cochrane Road.

I happen to like the station because it plays some upbeat rock and jazz, e.g., Jean-Luc Ponty, Lee Ritenour, and Steely Dan. I also heard Alan Parsons and Genesis there once.

This type of music used to be really popular with people who don't want the harsh sound of heavy metal nor the overdone classic rock (drunk in background yells "Freebird!") . They also didn't want to fall asleep to Classical, Smooth Jazz nor Easy Listening.

I also wonder because it is utterly frustrating to hear a song you like and not know the artist and title. I can Google it if it's got lyrics. If it's an instrumental, it seems all bets are off.

What do you know about this 101.9 in the South Bay? Will anything become of it?

It has to be a pirate. A quick FCC search shows licensed 101.9 stations in Sacramento & Fresno, plus a 55-watt translator in Modesto. Nothing around Morgan Hill or Gilroy. Also, there's full-power stations on 102.1 in San Francisco & King City, along with 101.7 stations in Livermore and Carmel. So there's no way this would ever be granted by the FCC. To answer your question, I think it's safe to say that nothing will ever become of it.

Thanks for the quick reply, Dave B.

I also saw one page that said 101.9 then 3 South Bay cities (Morgan Hill, San Jose, San Martin) with churches of different denominations as well as that New Life thing.

Just trying to decipher this, I do like the music they play and wish it was heard more. However, we all need to comply with FCC regulations and the like first.
