I was in town for Bama/Tulane last weekend and listened to a lot of Live. It sounds great. It's gonna be even better when the jocks sign on and are able to tell us what some of the new songs are. Does anyone have any ideas as to what we might hear in terms of specialt shows? Reg's Coffee House seems like an obvious (although highly unnecessary now).

I've been listening to "Live" for the past month, and yes...it does sound good. Hopefully it'll stay around for a while and Citadel won't yank the format. Radio (in Birmingham and elsewhere) the vast wasteland that it is, needs all the help it can get.
Evidently, the station has begun adding jocks during some time periods. I finally heard a real person on there this past Friday around 3:30 when I went to pick up my daughter at school.

FWIW, UAB fans aren't terribly thrilled about Blazer games being on 100.5. Many of them live north and/or east of Birmingham and can't pick WWMM up reliably.

Don't know if that's due to technical difficulties, or that was intentionally done to take the signal out farther. The stereo was still off, as of early this morning.

100.5 seems to have a history of stations coming and going away in short periods of time. Perhaps it would be for the best to shut down the 100.5 signal permanently or move it to a better location after WWMM ultimately fails their ratings expectations.
Don't get me wrong, I would like to see Live succeed. However, I also think it won't survive for long because of the same signal coverage problem that finished off The X's ratings a couple years back. Wasn't this the main reason why they moved JOX to 94.5 from 100.5 to get better ratings to begin with?

Wouldn't it be ironic if the solution to the coverage woes was to reapply for their old position at 100.7 and just serve Tuscaloosa again? ;D
I've never really done the checking, but maybe they could pull a Jamz: Drop power significantly as a tradeoff for a Red Mountain TX site. Of course Jamz still doesn't do a good job (from what I recall) covering places like Pinson and far east Trussville, where they had issues before with the Blount County site years ago.

That might not be a bad way to go (apply to have WWMM move the xmtr up to Red Mountain as a C2 or something like that). It'd probably cover Birmingham better, anyway. As it is now, WWMM is covering mostly Tuscaloosa along with just parts of Birmingham.
This all leads me to the next question: Whatever happened to the CP to change WWMM's city of license from Northport to Helena? From what I recall, the move is primarily a COL change. The xmtr is still going to be located in the same place it is now, with less power, but higher up on the tower. According to the info I saw on radio-locator about it, the signal coverage would (supposedly) be identical to what it is currently. Wouldn't help them any as far as coverage goes, but I was just wondering whatever became of that CP. The FCC database still shows the station being licensed to Northport, and the station itself is still ID'ing as Northport.

I've been out by their tower a long time ago and I'm pretty sure it's under 900 feet tall. I don't recall if there's room to move up the tower or if they'll need a new one.

Stream is back up; listening this morning and what do I hear but an actual human announcer. Kinda surprised, I thought they were outlawed during TelCom Reform
This weekend I was in Birmingham (note to Dothan posters: it's a large town somewhat north of you) and got to hear Amber's last Friday afternoon break. Also, the never-said-his-name, "that was / this is" morning guy is billboarding Dave Rossi for middays, so I suppose Reg's promise of a low-key live-staff startup is coming due. Veeeerrrrryy low-key.

Zach, the FCC shows the new antenna being elevated on the same 934' tower. I listened too. It might be ok if the morning guy ever woke up. Rossi and the AM guy sound very down. The afternoon female sounds like she is out of place and a transplant from teen rock station, very silly sounding. They also bill themselves as Modern Music, but I sure hear a lot of old burned out stuff.
As far as the sound, it is very good. I remember the old 100.5, and it was way over-compressed and distorted. Sounded like they were trying to make up for their lack of coverage by pushing the loudness.
I think that they have raised their antenna and are operating at the maximum power they are allowed. On the FCC website, they have filed an application for license for Helena. Usually, when this is filed, they are operating at the full power.
I guess they could raise the existing tower 98 feet. That's a lot of $$$ for no coverage improvement, though.
Dave Rossi has always sounded one Xanax away from a coma, in my opinion. That's why I didn't care for his delivery on the X back in the day. I did however hear him at the station he worked at in Charleston, and his delivery was a much better fit for that station, which was similar to Live 100.5 if I remember correctly.

Actually, wasn't his station in Charleston the modle for Z100.5? I think they were both owned by Apex Broadcasting...in fact I think Apex only owned stations in Charleston and Tuscaloosa.
