Live 105.3 drops the "FREE FM" name

I noticed on the Jagger Show this morning that "Free FM" has been deleted from all their rejoins, bumpers, promos and such. I also heard rumors that CBS Radio is phasing out the "Free FM" brand nationwide. Makes me wonder if Live 105.3 is gonna go back to their "Alternative Talk Station" slogan, or if a more drastic format flip is in the works...

Gavin and Russ were talking about this Friday when someone called in and wanted to know why the Free FM sign had been changed to the old Live 105.3 sign. They said that Free FM was a corporate mandate that was not effective and they were phasing out Free FM in D/FW. Kinda makes you wonder why CBS is stalling on renewing Russ' contract? ???

Just because they are dropping the brand Free FM doent mean their is a format change coming anytime soon. I cant see 105.3 flipping anytime soon as the station makes major $ for the cluster. And as far as Russ' contract...and its prolonged negotiations ever hear of the word bit....80-90% of what you hear on that show is a bit...so dont read into anything you hear on the show as being reality when it comes to what really happening behind the scenes.

Let's count the many "Great Ideas" that has come out of corporate since January 2006.

1. The David Lee Roth morning radio show, what a winner. I can still remember when Roth was on Stern announcing he would replace Howard. When Valerie came back on for the traffic, her voice and her comments spoke volumes.

2. FREE FM Branding. What a quick death, dollars and ratings that's what keeps you alive.

3. Opie & Anthony returning to morning drive time. Ratings speak volumes, 0.0 in Dallas and Las Vegas edgy radio at it's worst. Did Russ ever really promote them? Wasn't there a feud between the 2 camps.

4. The end of the Oasis 107.5

After these "great moves" a major format change is the only thing they haven't tried. That might work.
has anyone heard from Tempie Lindsay???

Party on dudes

I saw the Free-FM van and the Jack-FM truck traveling in tandem down Stemmons yesterday...no doubt headed to Earl Scheib for "updating." Why not just shift the whole format backwards, go back to "The Talk That Rocks" for awhile, then evolve back into "Young Country/Superstar Country."

For my money, I'd love to see 105.3 flip to an active rocker, somewhere musically between Edge and The Eagle. Jagger and Russ could still do their shows, and just substitute music for those beloved caesuras. Leykis could be sent to KRLD until the contract's out, and P&K? Obvious decision.

Tempie is working a "normal" job now and doing voiceover work on the side. What a waste of talent, to not have her in a prominent position on the dial. How about a Smooth Jazz format on 96.7? Tempie, Tim and Bret holding down the fort, with frequent cut-ins from Lynn Briggs in Las Vegas!

Speaking of, KETR-88.9 Commerce ("The Mint," "The Lion," or whatever it is now) is really peppering their format with smooth jazz now, and occasionally promoting this on the air. For my taste, it's becoming yet another preset button that needs to be changed. It's never been a very even format, but it's all over the place now.

The Free FM thing was all Hollander, now that he's out it looks as if Dan Mason is reexamining things on a market by market basis.

105.3 and movin are ships without rudders.Much as i don't care for Russ,he is the only stabilizing thing on there, the rest is adrift and management doesn't know what the hell to do with it. I say cut your loss and sell it. They won't however. Movin what a fiasco! Just like we predicted. Does anyone know how to program at CBS? We will continue to see these stations stumble for awhile. Its the guys with "biddness degrees" from the 80's who are screwing things up today.

Russ is the only person worth a damn on Free, er, Live, er, whatever it is. He should just walk over to The Ticket and do nights.

Russ will never go over to the ticket!!! From what I hear he'll be at Clear Cahnnel. They know how to treat a feller. ;D
Who cares if they dropped the "FreeFm" moniker. I thought "Live" is a far better image than "Free". The colors are far snazzier too! ;D ::)
The downfall will be the corporate weasels that are running cBS listening to consultants. Bidness degrees are good for the books. Not PROGRAMMING!!!!!!

What about "Loveline?" I've enjoyed listening to it in the past, but it seems like the reputable Dr. Drew has become a mere side-kick since they added Stryker as the host. How does it do in the ratings in this market?

I heard that the Free FM in New York has flip to active rock, I wander if the Free FM here will change too.
