LIve 105

Not a good thing for Live 105. Although the ratings haven't been very good for quite a while, Sean is a very creative guy. Will the Alternative format survive?

I can't see why, live 105 is just like wild 94.9, they look at the san jose ratings instead of the san francisco ratings, in the san jose ratings live 105 went up

They absolutely depend on the San Francisco ratings. Live 105 was 21st in the overall rankings in the Spring Book for San Jose. 20th in the San Francisco book. The ratings for the important male demographics were a bit better but not good enough. Their income has been cut in half after Howard Stern left. This is another CBS Radio station that is in trouble.

Sean IS a VERY creative guy and you are right the ratings are not there. BUT they have NEVER been there it's always been a strong sales station though because it was a lifestyle sell. Recently though even the billing has been off. Sean has done the best he can with something that has never been a powerhouse, he at least made it interesting to listen to again.

Agreed. But the "lifestyle" is almost impossible to define, attract and measure. Howard is gone (for now.) And the music has lost its definition. This is a format and a station in trouble.

I don't think a market 4 Corporate-owned station can sustain on a qualitative sell. The avertisers are buying CPP, whether the listeners are cool or not.

Also, Wild and Live 105 both sell based on their SF numbers, though San Jose can be a big factor in helping them achieve those numbers.

I think the lifestyle can be attracted and defined. Look at KROQs success in L.A. The beach scene. The "rich white kids". The high school and college males at UCLA. They all love KROQ. In the bay area, they all listen to KMEL for the rap. It's just much more "ghetto" in the bay area, as a friend of mine said.

It's sad to see Live 105 go downhill. Sean did great things with it and the station was sounding phenomenal for the past few years. I actually won a prize from Sean when I was 14, calling in to KEZY in Anaheim back in the late 80s. Won $100. So I've always respected Sean and his creativity and uniqueness. Hopefully he finds something great somewhere....

Maybe we'll see the birth of "Movin 105", ya never know. Wouldn't it make more sense to condense the "Live 105" format into "[email protected]" and turn "Live 105" into Movin? Or "Jack" for that matter? Just my $2 worth, but who am I?

My bet would be Bonneville to try the Movin' format in SF. They just flipped their St. Louis AC to Movin' last week. It's time to stick a fork in Max. CBS Radio could use a few forks themselves.

I haven't seen any mention about the main reason Sean is leaving. It's directly connected with one of those things many of us have to deal with sooner or later; the deteriorating health of a parent. His mom, living in upper NY state, has developed extreme Dementia. There are no other siblings involved so Sean is stepping up.

What has been said is correct. Sean brought big creativity to LIVE, along with a great hallway vibe to the building.

He is a close friend and will be greatly missed.

Good for Sean to help in that situation. I always respected him,
but my respect is even higher for him stepping up like that.

Movin will not replace Alt at Live as they have offered the job to an alternnative programmer already who has turned it down. So obviously they plan to remain alternative. Plus Movin is not a proven commodity yet, it's just "Jammin oldies" re launched for 2006, and although Jammin oldies I thought was a fantastic format it didnt prove to have the staying power and hence it was gone.

Sean was a great guy. he will be missed.... I hope they dont move away from the Alt format
