Live 88.5 Ottawa,

As posted on US Based (and serving mostly the states, and
of course N.America), the station @ 88.5FM claiming to
be legally licensced/or serving the ottawa audience has
a number of jobs..any details of this station would be helpful.

I am not interested in applying; rather just inquiring about the
station, its format, and location of studios.

The station is owned by Newcap, sister to CHR Hot 89.9. The format will be Modern Rock, the PD is Kneale Mann, and they're currently located in temporary facilities in the CJOH building on Merivale Road.

Hot 89.9 is/was in the same building as Standard radio's Bear FM.
Will this still be the case, or is Hot and Live (NewCap Ottawa) planning to move into one seperate building?
______________

Hot and Live will be moving to their own facilities (likely in the St. Laurent shopping Centre.)

I think that would be smart, but rent may be high though.
______________

If they cut a good enough deal, the rent can be fair, and they can offer free plugs on air, or do live broadcasts to get more people to come to the mall, but I do agree, in the end, the bottom line may be that rent in a mall is just too high, and they may have to look elswhere.
Let's also not forget they are targeting teens with both stations, and the last thing a mall wants is for more teens to just hang out there.

Both stations target 18-34, not really teens. But you're right about cutting a deal based on the idea that they're an attraction.

...and that's why I may believe it's smart,
but I don't know the mall well enough to make further comment.

There's dead (or almost dead) malls that could always use the help of a radio station, then there's those malls that may even have a wait list for future tennants...and a mall in between that may or may not feel the need for radio companies to rent space.

Targeting teens? Have you listened to HOT lately? The Corrs, Rick Springfield, Michael Bublé, Shania Twain, Dido, Jewel, The Police, Norah Jones... Zzzzzzz.

I give Live 88-5 18 months after their launch before they morph into Classic Rock. If NewCap couldn't sell Rhythmic CHR in Ottawa, Alternative will fair no better.

Is Faith Hill's "Breathe" on its playlist? Hot 89-9=96X Edmonton (Hot AC/CHR)+The Rap. It'll stay alt rock, 'cuz it isn't niche in Canada. Live 88-5 will mix in all active rock currents that play on the alternative chart, with more alternative only (non-active or mainstream) or AAA tunes.
