Live coverage & who's still on the air?

WPMI's feed died on me not too long ago. WKRG still seems to be up & running.

Any idea if any of the stations in Mobile have been knocked off the air? Any reports of downed towers?

I think an even better question is did anybody cover the storm that wasn't in Mobile? Has everyone gotten so sick of covering storms that they don't even care or is anyone actually giving weather updates without relying on local TV stations?

There's something heavy going on with Monroeville's Mediacom cable feed of the Mobile-Pensacola stations: Virtually all of the Mobile-Pensacola news stations are alternating between video and static virtually every two seconds. Digging out my handy 5" b&w mini TV with an antenna, it appears that only WPMI is off the air at their regular studios, but IS on through cable (more on that later).

No clue on what's going on with WJTC UPN 44 or "The Gulf Coast WB" WBPG 55--can't pick them up on my mini TV, nor does local cable carry them (blah!).

Basically, WPMI 15, WKRG 5, WEAR 3 and WALA 10 are on, but with the video coming in and out so quickly, it's incredibly annoying to try and watch. Fortunately, Mediacom-Monroeville also carries WAKA 8 and WSFA 12 (CBS & NBC from Montgomery, respectively).

According to their website, WPMI is off the air, but their reporters and meteorologists are broadcasting from Clear Channel Radio studios in Mobile. The very studios located at 555 Broadcast Drive--in the very building that houses the studios of WKRG. Talk about irony...

As far as the radio side is concerned, I recieved all of the bigger 100KW stations in my car, all either simulcasting TV audio from 5, 10,or 15. The two Pensacola stations I recieved (WJLQ 100.7 and WYCL 107.3) were back into the music, with 107.3 being something of a surprise considering the trouble at WPMI.

Any idea on how the AM radio side is doing in Mobile?
______________

The Crawford stations in Birmingham are off the air as of 146am CST. There is nothing but dead air on WDJC and WYDE. The WYDE HD signal is still up, as I can hear the buzz, but I assume nothing is on there either

Another note: as of 149am WUHT is off the air. That will probably just be temporary, as WRAX died for about 45 minutes earlier in the evening.
Edited by Sab on 08/30/05 06:49 AM.
