Live Earth Overload!

A few months ago, I bought a new car and had no choice except to take a year of pre-paid Sirius service. Being a radio station owner, I never imagined I'd be a satellite radio subscriber. However, as much as I travel, I've gotten used to having Sirius to keep me company, particularly when I'm traveling in rural parts of the country where you can't get any local radio. I still believe local radio excels over and above satellite radio, especially in smaller markets. However, nonetheless, I'll give credit where it's due...Sirius has several channels I enjoy in the car.

All that said, I didn't realize Sirius was a left-wing propaganda service! All week this week, and specifically all day today, most of my favorite stations have run this Live Earth crap. The ones that aren't running it are running promos constantly. I can understand dedicating a channel to it. However, does anybody else think running the concerts and promos on dozens of channels, particularly the most popular ones, is going a bit overboard? If I want to hear left-wing dirt-worshipping propaganda, I'll turn on Air America. I just don't expect to hear it all over Sirius.

My question is this. Is this a symptom of too few programmers making the real decisions for most of the channels? Or, has management at Sirius made a decision to make Live Earth a priority. I'm curious how much imput upper management has into this sort of thing.

If this sort of propaganda is going to be pushed on so many different channels, I won't be renewing my subscription. I'm done ranting now, though :)

I've been a subscriber since Christmas 2004 and the one constant on a number of the music channels has been left-wing b.s. For me, it's a small price to pay for commercial free, diverse music; but it is annoying. Meg Griffin is the worst; also ranting against the war and the President at every turn on Sirius Disorder. In this case, however, I think the powers that be thought getting on the Live Earth bandwagon wasn't just politically correct but also hip and trendy. Based on the empty seats yesterday at the Meadowlands, I think the jury is still out on that.

goodness gracious. i think broadcasting live earth - aside from the save the earth message - was the MUSIC. i think the programming folks at xm and sirius thought it would be great to feature all these bands from everywhere in the world. that's my thinking. ;D

At least it's over now. However, if they continue to spew left-wing propaganda like this on a regular basis, I'll be cancelling. Hey, maybe this is the answer to the Fairness Doctrine!

That particular phrase, "Climate In Crisis", is the one that really made me roll my eyes. Now there's some propaganda for ya. I could have handled the music, since much of if was from artists I like anyway. I may even have been able to endure the endless and equally mindless speeches from the artists. After all, they are artists...what else would we expect. What pushed me over the edge, though, was the constant stream of liners on practically every channel pushing the whole "climate in crisis" theme. To hear them tell it, the earth just might fall out of the sky tomorrow afternoon if we don't all immediately commit mass suicide. Geez, I couldn't even find an escape from the tree-hugger crap on the Blue Collar Comedy channel, and that's just sad. *sigh* at least I don't have to hear that junk on my own radio stations. Thank you terrestrial radio :)
