So, I subscribe to the WTAM "Big One Buzz"--an online newsletter of sorts sent to my email that advertises contests, appearances by hosts, etc.
Today's issue had a big ad box with Jerry Springer, stating that he would be "LIVE FROM THE WTAM AUDITORIUM". Also, they're giving away tickets to see Jerry do his show live from aforementioned Auditorium.
I've been in World Domination HQ at Oak Tree Blvd. exactly twice, and no further than the expansive foyer on the 4th floor, and the reception desk at the far end (always populated by very attractive promotions girls).
But, knowing what the building's previous use was (HQ for First Energy), and the general layout of the building--very corporate, block office space, etc.--and the fact that the studios are "rowed" (such that WTAM is next to/connects to WMJI is next to/connects to WMMS is next to...ad infinitum), here's my question:
Where in the hell is the (an) AUDITORIUM? Is there one at the Oak Tree digs? If so, where? Or is Jerry actually going to be doing his show someplace else that WTAM is touting as the "WTAM Auditorium" for that day?
I know back (way back) in the day, WTAM DID have an auditorium (as all the stations did)--from which Morning Bandstand and the "shows" would be broadcast, every day live (except Christmas). According to the Cleveland Broadcast Radio Archives, the studios used to be in the Union Trust Bulding in 1926, then to the Cleveland Auditorium Building (wherever that was--Public Hall?) in 1930, to the Superior Building (810 Superior) in 1938, and then to the Westinghouse/NBC Building at East 6th and Rockwell (radio & TV) sometime in the 1950s (though I think this was in the early 60s). All of these studios either had an auditorium, or had the capability of having an auditorium.
So, who knows the answer--does the Compound at Oak Tree Blvd. have a secret auditorium?
