Live in the Den w/ Big Tigger getting cancelled

Looks like Premier Radio networks in cancelling Live in the Den with Big Tigger's countdown and picking up Weekends with the Breakfast Club from WWPR in New York. I always figured the Breakfast Club would go syndicated but assumed it'd be mornings first, not pretty much replacing Big Tigger for the weekend show. It'll be interesting how many stations start picking them up for the countdown.

Is this the Clear Channel way? They'll push hard to get them on all their Urban stations, see how they do on weekends...then eventually start firing the local morning shows and replacing them with The Breakfast Club. This is the next big Clear Channel morning show for their Urbans. And its a good show. Just a shame for the local talent......

Wow! I wonder what this will mean for V103, who airs his show on the weekends? By the way I wonder how he is doing in the afternoons since Ryan's departure? And for that matter how is Ryan doing since Frank's departure?

According to Rodney Ho from AJC Big Tigger is number 1 in ratings for afternoon drive in demos 18-34 and 25-54 so he is doing just fine. Ryan is doing fine as well most likely since the station is still number 1 in all demos. It really means nothing as far as WVEE goes IMO it more so effects Tigger.

V103 can run jockless and still be on top.

Probably true. But why?

Heritage and 103.3 broadcasts in clear FM stereo, static free. Whether you're in an underground Marta tunnel or a high rise in Midtown, better yet anywhere in North Georgia V103 is static free.

Now you know good and well, the musical programming of V-103 trumps why it has survived although it is challenged on all demographic fronts by 4 different radio stations. There has been a long list of heritage urbans that have fallen with flamethrower signals in other cities. WVEE's signal helps but its dayparting of programming allows them target the moneymaking demographics during the day and the hip-hop audience at night and weekends.

Also it doesn't have a cross-competing urban sister station thus it can play whatever it wants resulting in listeners from as old as 50+ to as young as 12 listening to their station. It benefits from being a full-service urban contemporary, so the music is the main draw, plain and simple.

This will affect Tigger more than anything else, but he is already making already basically making a 7 figure salary now with WVEE. I assume V-103 will go back local on Sunday nights or move Cannon's Countdown to Sunday nights. Regardless, they will likely bring back a local shift on weekends. Maybe it will be an actual local talent specialty show like "So So Def Saturday" which used to air on Saturday nights from 9-10PM.

Big Tigger's countdown show was on Premier which is owned by Clear Channel. So that's why they cancelled his show and got The Breakfast Club. I'm sure Tigger will get another syndication company and cont.

I'm not 100% sure about that one. His current employer CBS Radio only allowed him to continue the show "Live in the Den" because its VP of Urban/Rhythmic division & Atlanta OM/PD Reggie Rouse is the executive producer the show from 2006-present. The thing is when you sign with CBS it is an exclusivity contract with the terrestrial radio medium, so thing is if you are to be syndicated it would have to be through them. The thing is now CBS has "Cannon's Countdown" as their urban/crossover/top 40 syndication vehicle so that might not be case now for Tigger. Also the syndication market isn't as exactly as open to new things it used to be because the failure rate of so many newer urban shows is quite high. Companies aren't exactly jumping at the idea nowadays like they used to.
