one more note: Max seems to have softened up a bunch in the past few days. Is it my imagination? The "oh wow" factor is gone for me.
I believe they are doing a promotion at the goodguys show in pleasanton, this weekend, have yet to see billboards, van sticker stops, live broadcasts with no deejays, and giveaways, but the concert season is upon us. we shall see, when they where 95.7 the bear, they did heavy promotions, had 2 wrapped logo vehicles and tons of giveaways.

Speaking of no personalities at the promotional remote, I saw on CBS2 New York an interview with the General Manager of WCBS FM. They did a story of the flip to Jack FM. (Of course, CBS O&O) He says that there will be NO DJ's, NO News, NO Traffic and NO Weather. Just music! (With commercials, of course) He says that now. They can always change later. But this is spooky! Just put my MP3 player on shuffle and skip the middle Corporate Programmer!!!

I concur with both your sentiments. FPS, the last thing I ever thought while listening to the radio at any time ever was that Top 40 stations would disappear, radio icons like KYA and KFRC would disappear and that idiot corporate morons who own 4500 stations across the country would figure to save money by getting rid of the reason people listen in the first place... the jocks!
There were plenty of times when the day's music wasn't all that hot (mid-70's for me...Carpenters, Manilow, Bee Gees...AGGH!) and I would listen for the jock. If I just want to hear music, I'll get out my CD-by-years collection and start spinning. If I want radio now, I have to play some airchecks.
Did any of you suspect that this "live" jock on MAX is voice-tracked? Besides, this "whatever" idea sucks. First, use of that stupid word makes it sound like they don't give a rat's what the listener thinks and there's no buffer with the current hits to complement the 'whudevah' songs. It sounds like the Selector's on auto-pilot. Someone put some real radio on.

Um, when you make too many "live" mistakes, you are "live", when you are voice tracked it sounds too perfect, that's the cool thing about being voice tracked, if you don't like how you sound, you can press delete and do it over again.
when you are "live" you can't do over.

I've given 95.7 a pre-set button now, and will listen from time to time, but the last few weeks of "70s, 80s, Whatever" has reminded me again why I mostly gave up rock music on the radio from the mid 70s to the mid 80s. Definitely not the greatest period for rock or pop, in my opinion.

Yeah, the early to mid 70's was slow but it picked up from 1977 to 1989. Fortunately, there was enough good music during the late 70's to early 80's to offset disco.
