Live on Christmas?

This dealt with TV, but I was shocked to see WIS, WLTX and WOLO all did not have 11:00p newscasts last night! In fact, WIS "the news leader" filled the time with a really half-assed production of local schoolchildren doing poor renditions of Christmas Carols.

Well,...it's a then & now thing: With a Saturday & Sunday, weekend holiday situation, back then, part-timers had to work. Most PD's had some heart, regarding college students or personal needs to be off, but usually they worked, and that was addressed to them the day that they were hired. Today, now, in the time the PC Jukebox, high tec software can do it all, but it still can fail,...and fall off-line; Dead Air! Usually one person, paid to be on call, can correct the flub, by linking their Lap or Smart Phone to reset, and even scan to see what "Oafed", and when. No, I don't like anything that takes jobs away from local broadcasters: Syndi-shows, Out of market VT's, or just the PC on auto pilot. To me, the FCC should be aware of what stations execute on holidays...to approve/disapprove, and/or advise.
However,...viewing The Big Picture....it's more than OK...to me...'cause...Who wants to work on Christmas?

Are any SC stations live on Christmas, or are they all voicetracked/automated? Magic 98.9 in Greenville is live this morning.

98.9 was talking at 7:15 this morning. at 7:30 they started a public affairs program with lisa who is on with russ. don't you think the 7am hour on christmas morning from a christmas station would think it was important to play christmas music? that was a fumble if you ask me.

Yeah, not a smart decision. They used to have a show at 6:30am with Heidi Aiken also. Does 102.5 still air public affairs programs on Sunday also? Seems it ended before 7am, though

Yep,...just as expected. When it comes to bumpin' your Public Affairs Programing to a latter time, we all now see the true spirit of...
The "Oaf"-fisal Christmas Station! The FCC requires a minimum of
2-hours a week, and most stations are allowed to start it at 5am,
on Sunday morning, just to get rid of it. If you did a little something throughout the week...(add it up) you wouldn't have a last day bottleneck. Oh, and heaven help the poor soul that gets knighted with the shackle of Public Service Director. Your job is to keep a current, and active file; ready for inspection. If they do come to inspect, and find an Oafing...the GM will pee in...your Cherrio's, unless you were fired, earlier in the week, due to a budget cut!

I say every GM should be the Public Service Director at his or her station and should be in charge of the all inspection files personally, after all there the GM.

The FCC doesn't require ANY public service programming. However, you do have to document what issues your station has addressed every quarter and how you did it.
