Live Remote Broadcasts in SF

I worked in Bay Area radio when RPU live broadcasting with a cell phone talk back was the way to broadcast live from the field.

With 3 and 4G being so available in the Bay, what are stations using now?
 
In Dallas we use a mix of RPU and/or Comrex Access in TCP/IP mode. The issues we've had with 3/4G is cell site loading. As a typical example, when we do a site survey the cell sites in the area may have minimal traffic. Then the day of the event when you have several thousand people show, the cell sites are swamped with traffic and the remote dumps in and out.

If we have access to a robust broadband internet connection we'll use TCP/IP for the broadcast and a POTS coupler for IFB. When only RPU is available we will do the same thing using the RF link for program and a secondary RF link or POTS coupler for IFB. Since a lot of our remotes are for live talk programming, the POTS coupler is used to mitigate latency effects when using TCP/IP...
