Live remotes

I had a question and figured this would be a great place to ask.

I work part time for GameStop. At the end of this month, there is a big game release for the XBox 360 and PS3 (Grand Theft Auto IV). What I was curious about was getting a station (like 101x) to do a live remote from the midnight launch when this game comes out. What does this sort of thing cost? Would a station do something like this for free? Sorry if this is just a silly question, but I've never looked into anything like this before and thought it would be good to do some research before making phone calls to stations. :)

Thanks in advance!

Well, I would say at this point of the month...it would have been better to do this a couple months in advance.

Also, consider which station would best fit your demographic. And please know, this WILL cost you some money. Over a thousand dollars I'm sure. You would have to buy a schedule, pay talent fees, promotion team fees and other fees more than likely.

And since you work for a national chain, you would have to get approval and money from corporate. (unless you have your own local alloted amount of marketing money).

Just call what station you would like out there and speak to a Account Executive about purchasing a remote package. There's quite a bit involved.

Good Luck :)

DON'T GO THROUGH SALES, CALL THE PROMOTIONS DEPARTMENT AT THE STATION YOU THINK IS MOST LIKELY TO MATCH DEMOS WITH YOUR PRODUCT. If they see the value you will have a much better chance,

That is true as well...but the bottom line is. Its gonna cost some moolah nonetheless. And it being already into the month, it may not be beneficial for promotions NOR the client.

Best of luck...let us know what you do :)

You also might be better off having a remote during the day. Most stations these days are tracked at night which means everything is run off a computer. They would need to pull in a live body to run the remote on air. Some stations might have a live board op because the do late night club remotes, but its pretty rare. As someone said before, lead time is key. Its the promotion on air leading up to a remote that is the real value.
