Maybe I was mistaken, but I thought The River and WSOX were voice-tracked all weekend. This past Saturday I heard J.C. Floyd on the River and Gary Maxwell on 'SOX and I presume they were live.
I know JC has been on The River for some time and assumed he was live. SOX got rid of their part timers a While back. They must have reconsidered. Good to have Gary back on the air....he's perfect for that format.
For as little as it costs to have live people cover 10am-7pm Saturdays and Sundays, it's always seemed to me that cutting those positions was false economy. Live people can do contesting and other things to keep the station relevant, to say nothing of relaying severe weather information. In cities like York and Harrisburg, these people are probably making 10 or 12 bucks an hour, and largely doing it for fun. Good for WSOX and the River if they are serving their listeners with live people on weekends.
Not to get off topic, but what were the call letters of this station (WSOX) back in the early-mid eighties and what format was it? I lived part time down in the Lancaster area from 75 to 85 and don't remember it at all.
I remember Maxwell when he did nights at FM97.
I see Fuzzy does afternoons at SOX now. I remember him when he was on WRKZ 107.
Man have the years went by!
