Living Legend Award Binghamton Broadcasters Reunion

We're getting closer to the 2011 Binghamton Broadcasters Reunion on September 24, 2011 at the Binghamton Riverview Hotel.

Earlier this month, we announced that Steve Craig would be the Broadcaster of the Year. Steve will be attendance at our reunion.

We are proud to announce that the winner of the Living Legend Award for 2011 is Tom Shiptenko.

The Living Legend is someone still involved in Binghamton Broadcasting, who for one reason or another, has reached legendary status.

Shiptenko has been involved almost non-stop in Binghamton broadcasting for over 45 years, with stops in Albany and Syracuse.

He started behind the scenes in television, then moved into sales at WNBF-FM. While at WNBF-FM, Tom established the First Commercial FM Rock Radio Show in the Northeast.

The show, Radio Free Binghamton, was produced and voiced by Tom Shiptenko.

Later, Tom managed and further developed the rock format WKOP-FM, which later became WAAL.

While at WAAL, Tom and founded the long running and highly successful Pops on the River event in downtown Binghamton, along with a huge number of community oriented promotions and events.

Tom is still active in music and concert promotion, and today serves as the station manager of Equinox Broadcasting.

Tom is also a member of the Southern Tier Broadcasters Association and Bundy Museum Hall of Fame.

Congratulations Tom on being the winner of the Living Legend Award.

The Reunion is a free and informal event, open to all current and former Binman Broadcasters. Nothing fancy, and all are invited.

It will take place at the Binghamton Riverview Hotel, formerly the Binghamton Regency, on Water Street on Saturday, September 24th.

The event will include with an optional buffet to open the evening, a cocktail hour to allow for visits with other broadcasters and then an awards program to close out the evening.

Choose to attend one segment or all.

If you're planning to attend, drop an e-mail to rayross@yahoo,com, and we'll get you on the list. If you are planning to participate in the buffet, please let us know as soon as possible, as the hotel needs a head count.

Buffets should be paid in advance, as soon as you can.

Cost is $21.95 per person.
