Liz Dueweke from KOMO to KCPQ

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/liz-dueweke-jumps-from-komo-to-kcpq_b118601

So ... Liz Dueweke, after just about a year at KOMO, leaves for KCPQ. She only has to sit out a month before she can go on air at Q13. Did she come to Seattle on a one-year contract? Is KOMO letting her go? Where's the non-compete.

Since Margo Myers left KOMO ten years ago, there has been unbelievable turnover on the Morning News (unreal in a market known for talent stability).

We have....

Margo Myers
Denise Whitaker
Molly Shen
Elisa Jaffe
Natasha Curry
Molly Shen
Peggy Bunker
Liz Dueweke
and now, Kelly Koopmans.

Meanwhile, over at KCPQ, the following all appear to be losing with this change:
Kaci Aitchison loses a spot at the anchor desk, entirely.
Brian Blakely, Kelly O'Connell, and Tim Joyce all go from anchoring from 4:30-7 (this shift was added as the Q13 Morning News got longer and longer and longer) to anchoring only from 4:30-5? Come on, I can't see Q13 keeping all three of them around to cover only a 30 minute early AM shift, even if they go into the newsroom and report stories for the rest of the newscast.

I'm surprised that Q13 didn't pick up Julie Francavilla. Inevitably, some of the "demoted" people will be leaving once their contracts expire.

So I wonder if KCPQ is also looking at getting rid of Bill Wixey or some other veteran there soon. And what's up with MJ and Adam Gehrke? M.J. was a good weather gal, but I didn't like her "wet paws" and doggy pictures. What does that have to do with weather? I did like Walter Kelley. Now he's a good forecaster. Not as good as veteran Jeff Renner on KING but close.

Hey Mike Brewer -

I've been a member of this forum, in all its various incarnations, for eleven years. For the entirety of that time, we've discussed TV topics on this forum. I know you'd prefer we only talked about radio, but guess, what, the TV stuff is okay too.

I certainly would love to have long, expansive conversations about the latest format changes and personality switches. But sadly, format wise our market has been pretty steady and its almost to the point where its time to ask "what's a DJ?"

There's plenty of juicy radio topics from the last few months that haven't been touched on here ...
*Bill Rice retirement from KOMO.
*Tony Minor leaves KIRO
*KOMO newsradio using more and more "24/7 News" reports during evening and weekend hours
*KNDD DJ shakeup and the new set showing more personality on air.
*KUOW daytime talk lineup changes.
*Metro Traffic's decline in quality of on air talent.
*Where's Tom McCarthy?

Etc.

*Metro Traffic's decline in quality of on air talent.
*Where's Tom McCarthy?

Jay Phillips (former KWJZ) and Tom McCarthy are on the traffic network. Doesn't sound like an air talent decline to me.

Jay Phillips has been on KOMO weekends for traffic for a couple years at least now.

You are right K-Man, I don't know why this board has been so quiet, especially with all that stuff happening. Come to think if it, I used to hear McCarthy on Sunday mornings on KOMO, and Jay Phillips has been doing weekend afternoons for a while, but haven't heard him in about a month. Instead, they've got some new people that I've never heard before.

Just joined today, but wanted to put my input on this issue.

It would've made a lot more sense to have Kelly & Brien anchoring from 4:30 to 7 and then have Liz & Bill step in and anchor from 7 - 10. When Kelly first joined she was on from 4:30 - 6, and Kaci would step in at 6. Now it seems Kelly is on until 7 at which point Kaci takes over. (Bill still seems to step in at 6). When Lily left for Houston, Kaci assumed her spot, and they had Erin Hawskworth filling in for the 4:30 - 6 portion until Kelly was hired on.

liz replacing kacy

Doesn't work for me...watch different morning news show now!

I realize this post has not been active for awhile...however, I do think Liz has adapted to the Seattle market. She came in as a pretty blonde face, and she is still pretty, but she seems more "Seattle" now. I guess we should give her the benefit of the doubt. This is not meant to be a survey of who looks the best, but perhaps who has blended into Seattle the best. Liz certainly has. I also think KCPQ's afternoon news is top-rate, with two very good anchors, Marni and Matt.
