Hi, I am from Philadelphia PA and just was looking at some old tapes I had, there was this show in the mid 60's I taped called the Lloyd Thaxton show. He did funny bits, had dancers, sort of like Bandstand and had great recording artists, he was a great entertainer. On the show I viewed he mentioned being a DJ in Los Angeles. What station was he on, was it top-40, is he still alive, when was he on the air, thanks in advance for the help....the show aired in Philly 5 days a week at 5pm on WKBS-TV-48, I think from 64 to 68..

I remember that show on Channel 48. I was no more than 7 yrs. old when it came on the air. I remeber it well, because it used to air opposite the cartoons on Channel 17. Of course, when it came to the battle between my cartoons and my older sister wanting to watch the Lloyd Thaxton show, I came up the loser. And of course, that was back in the day when most homes had only one T.V. in the house. I believe the program was syndicated out of Baltimore. You should call into the Rollye James show tonight or some other Friday night since she does music trivia on Friday's. No doubt she probably knows volumes about Lloyd and his T.V./Radio career.

He did fill-in for Dick Whittinghill on KMPC in the mid 1950's and had a local TV show out here on KCOP channel 13 I believe.
______________

There have been several mentions of Lloyd Thaxton on the Classic TV board.

And a post of mine from a year ago on the Classic Radio board which answers the original question of where Lloyd was heard on the radio in L.A.

We saw "The Lloyd Thaxton Show" here in the Boston area during the mid to late 1960's on WSBK/38 Boston and WTEV/6 New Bedford, MA (now WLNE). I loved it myself. I recall (at the age of 6 in 1966) seeing in COLOR, one of the few live-to-tape syndicated shows available in color prior to 1966. Lloyd did the game show "Funny You Should Ask" on ABC in 1968-69 as well.

Okay, this is getting away from what the original poster asked, as well as duplicating previous threads on the Classic TV board.

If we could get back to discussing Lloyd's radio work in L.A., please?
