LMAO at the "BIG" 870---"Your source for weather"

Yep, folks, the same station that hosed us out of live overnight coverage of "Tropical Storm" Cindy is playing their promos to stay tuned to them during "big storms and small." HA HA HA! Whoever made the dumb move not to do coverage of Cindy ought to be fired and exiled from working in radio ever again. These fools are trying to deceive us by playing these promos. They think we have short-term memory.

And what hacked me off even more the night of Cindy was George Noory, who along with Art Bell loves to talk about the extreme weather and hurricanes, mentioned NOT ONE piece of news of Cindy hitting southeast LA.

I've just seen WWL become more friendly to out-of-towners and hateful towards the listeners in the New Orleans area. The first sign of them being more welcoming to out-of-towners was when they set up the toll-free line a few years ago. Then they wait till Cindy moves back into the Gulf and gets ready to hit MS to do coverage. Then they want to do coverage of Dennis when it was only a hairline fraction of a threat to us as Ivan was. It's all about catering to out-of-towners, that's all.

Don't forget all the free advertising Entercomm gets on every DOT Hurricane Evacuation Route sign, which guides us to WWL and WLMG as official sources of storm information. Thus, these stations have a civic obligation to cover tropical storms.

Cindy was not an evacuation event, but had a large impact on our area, knocking out power to thousands of homes. It's safe to say that the number of people with battery-operated transistor radios far outnumber those with battery-operated television sets, increasing radio's responsibility to the public during emergency situations.

Running the Art Bell Show the night of Cindy is a glaring sign of how far WWL has slipped.

When I worked at a station in the Triparish area, our EAS was set to catch those channels to relay the signal. I assume that's why the stations are on the signs, because if the Emergency Alert System is activated, they have to carry it. I don't know about a civic obligation to cover a storm. Loyalty to your community is gone in major market radio. The FCC isn't yanking licenses over it.
______________

Not to cover Tropical Storm Cindy was probably the call of the arrogant and overpaid News Director Dave "Cone", a New Yorker who should go back where he came from...like DelGiorno should go back to his beloved Chicago as well.

Actually, I think his last name is Cohen and, as is my understanding, he ALSO hails from Chicago.

Yeah....what a way to reduce yourself to this level if you're WWL. Big word, little care.
______________

Yup....Important sounding name for a station with no meaningful substance whatsoever.

I moved away a couple years back, and had been listening to 870 at night just like old times. I did get to hear Buddy D one night, not long before he passed away.

I hoped to hear some hurricane coverage when Cindy came in, just like I did before with Isidore, Georges, Andrew, etc. I too, was shocked to hear some syndicated show, like nothing was wrong.

I looked at their site, and you guys are right; their daytime lineup sucks now! It really went downhill after I left.
