LMAO Radio Returning To PHX

DToTheJ said:
So - does KPHX's format life come full circle here?

Doubt it as ACN worked as well as Martini In The Morning on the coverage impaired 14~Eighty. But there's always some hapless Ancient Modulation station looking for a "niche" to make 'em rich. Interesting to note that the new Comedy station in Dallas is at 1700 on the Ancient Mod dial and its signal misses more of Dallas than it hits. hmmmmm....could the Lumberyard be looking for something to replace worn out oldies?

Lots of places to park it in Phoenix:

860 AM
1190 AM
1400 AM
1440 AM
1480 AM
1580 AM

740 AM
1100 AM
1260 AM
1340 AM if they get moved out of Globe soon enough.

I doubt it will be 1580. Is The Mickey Mouse Outfit selling it? And even if they were, if somebody had the dough for a 50,000 watt station, I'd be very surprised if they put a 5th-tier format like comedy on it.

And if TMISU want to put bad comedy on 860, they can just move Doug & Wolf, the Suns, and ASU men's hoops there. ;D

Believe it or not, that "fifth-tier format" you speak of is getting not-to-be-laughed-at ratings in markets like Kansas City...

It's on KCMO-FM HD-2 in Kansas City. In Austin on KGSR HD-3 and a translator. Ratings in both markets where it's on FM, but for how long? The Nurse and I can't think of a likely Ancient Modulation station for an All-Yuks format in Phoenix, but there are a ton of HD-2's and HD-3's that might be interested.

Should change the topic heading to "LMAO Radio Coming to Globe." Unless you're in the far east valley, you won't be able to pick-up KIKO-FM. Strange move!

Strange? Just remember KIKO-FM = 1TV.com At least the lost Dutchman will be getting a few laughs off this move!

Yep, exactly my good Doc. I find it strange because they're claiming to be moving onto the Phoenix airwaves, but unless you got a really good and selective radio, good luck picking up KIKO-FM in the city of Phoenix. If you're anywhere in Phoenix (especially north or west of the city), Movin' Hot 97.5 will cause massive adjacent-channel interference to Funny 97.3.

I can already hear the legal ID:
Funny 97.3, KIKO-FM, Claypool, Apache Junction - all trailer-park jokes, all the time!! ;D

...in rotation with

Funny 97.3, KIKO-FM Claypool, Apache Junction - you may not be able to hear us, but we're still funnier than Mac 'n Gaydos ;D

Apparently Variety Funny 97.3 is already on the air. For those able to pick-up the station, 24/7 Comedy Radio is on the air and is broadcasting from Claypool in all it's mono glory. I believe Variety 97.3 was in stereo, but Funny 97.3 is only available in mono. Looks like 1TV.Com loves turning off the stereo on their FM stations (just like Nifty 1260's translator on 96.1 FM).

Enjoy listeners of Phoenix Apache Junction! :p

Also, call it coincidence, but when I first turned on the station driving home from work, the first comedian I heard was Larry the Cable Guy. I immediately tuned it away and switched back to KCDX to save my ears from bleeding.

Funny 97.3 really is going after the Apache Junction crowd! ;D

They turned off their stereo pilot in hopes of providing a better signal into the Metro. Good luck with KMVA as an adjacent.

And, what's their strategy? I'm scratching my head on this move. Now, the only stations targeting Globe-Miami with music formats are both country stations.

Willard Shoecraft must be rolling over in his grave right now. Nice way to make a mockery of someone's life work...

I remember when All Comedy Radio brought in Gary Coleman (!) to do daily commentary, the listeners were rightly furious as comedy and Gary Coleman don't go together. Turns out one of the guys behind ACR was Coleman's manager or mentor or whatever and was throwing a bone to him.

ACR was fun to listen to, but not sustainable.

Comedy radio + daily commentary?
I hear Lewis Black.

"Whatcha talkin' about, Willis..." only goes so far.

A few days ago I heard the announcer stating that you could listen to music on "Variety 97.3". Whazzup with that??

Just a side note. Many comedy routines are recorded in STEREO to create that live ambiance. It doesn't make sense to kill your STEREO PILOT because the listener is missing out on a live STEREO experience. The stereo pilot also helps the casual listener to see that they are tuned in. MONO is low teck!
