LMFAO - Sexy & I Know It

Am I the only one that absolutely despises this song? I can't believe it's gone as far as it has - so stupid and cringe-worthy, in my book.

One of the flat out worst songs I have ever heard, and that's saying a lot!

Absolutley hate it. And i've really digged a lot of the recent CHR songs. This one, however, is just awful.

It's a fun party record without any deeper meaning. The music without the Rap is pure Acid Techno, and with the Rap you can kind of call it Tech-Hop. I like it.

Besides, I'm sexy and I know it ;D

It's a hilarious novelty song with no substance, which is perfect for CHR. It certainly makes more sense on today's CHR than a song about going on a shooting rampage. That said, I don't expect this song to chart nearly as long as "Party Rock Anthem."

Its not my favorite song in the world. Still, credit where credit is due to LMFAO for continuing to pump out fun, if not disposable, party songs that have catchy lyrics and interesting beats. Sure, they are never going to win Record of the Year at the Grammys, but not everything has to be so serious or contemplative. Sometimes people just want to hear fun party records, and LMFAO has no qualms about filling this vapid void.

Plus, they do it so unabashedly thats almost admirable. They seem to be much more in on the joke than some CHR artists that make crap yet take themselves too seriously.

This. So very much.

It reminds me of "I'm too sexy for my shirt" or whatever that crap was back in the day. The video has them dancing and "air humping" in speedos with flopping scrotums. If it weren't borderline gay porn it would be unintentially hilarious. It's one of those things that you feel guilty about watching, but for some reason you can't turn away. At any rate, you got to hand it to these guys for have the balls to get half naked and shake their junk on film. Not something I would do.

This going to what I was saying about LMFAO being way more 'in' on the joke than other pop acts. Two marginally attractive guys with weird afros flopping their junk on their videos- they should at least get credit for having the balls (both figuratively and literally) to attempt this and find success.

Except that what they put out isn't "music" - it's entertainment, and it's funny, but there's nothing musical about it, except some digitally programmed beat and a lot of sliding/bending pitches on a synthesizer

No offense, but LMFAO is music for people who don't like music - people who like to dance and who like to fantasize about having sex with hot girls, but who've never picked up a musical instrument in their life

I think there are two sides to your argument, though. First, not all music has to have instruments- there is plenty of music out there that is digitally produced- including a lot of new "rock" product like the chillwave movement. Second, some of the greatest 'musicians' throughout history (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, etc) have always realized the importance of melding music with entertainment and pop culture. The two have never been mutually exlcusive, and this is an even more important fact in 2011 when the lines of media and pop culture are being blurred like no other time in our history. Madonna, for example, was always more of an entertainer than she was a musician. Music is just part of the act in any highly successful pop artists career. (For the record, I'm not equating Madonna or MJ to LMFAO, I'm just illustrating a point) Third, music takes all forms. There was a time when guitar driven rock was considered nothing but noise, so you're not the first person to suggest a musical style that you don't favor isn't truly music.

Except that there are almost no notes/chords in "Sexy And I Know It" - just a beat, talking, and bending pitches

I think we will just have to agree to disagree on this one and refer to anything released by LMFAO as 'prerecorded sounds' :)

Acid Techno, FTW! 8)

BTW, the whole "it's not music" argument is nothing new. Some people have said about Darude's "Sandstorm", or "Drop It Like It's Hot" by Snoop Dogg, or "Work It" by Missy Eliott
