Local ad rates during the Super Bowl

We all know about millions it costs to run ads during the Super Bowl. But what about local commercials? Do stations charge more during this time and how much more do they charge?

I know of a small market NBC affiliate that billed over $100K. Probably for the the entire day. I worked at an ABC affiliate back in the 80's. We had a RCA cart machine. We ran a 2" reel to reel package as a backup during he game because the spots ran for $5,000 for a 30 second spot. So master control ran both machines in the local breaks.

Saw somewhere that a 30 second local spot on WNBC in NYC this year was going for $300,000. I've heard in the past few years that six-figure spots in top markets is not unusual.

During the actual game, I believe locals got 4 minutes (by observation, not because I saw NBC's log)

I believe at half time, end of half time and the end of the 3rd quarter. I think the break at the start of the game is extended. Maybe two minutes. The rest 93 seconds. Not written in stone.

Given all of the effort put into making the national commercials award-worthy, local commercials in general seem to stand out even more during the Super Bowl.

Especially when you can't tell they're not national and have to pay attention.

By the way, what teams played that football game and who won?
