Does anyone know of a internet radio station that markets themselve as a local station? I would be interested in hearing their story and if and how they succeed?

We are a local radio station that also streams. The station is very local in content and even plays local musicians. Musically, you either love it, or have absolutely no interest in it. Our primary interest is in being a good neighbor and being an active part of our community.

I'm sometimes surprised at how many people actually tune in to a station located in Chalk Hill, Texas. www.kzqx.com It isn't huge numbers, but it is gratifying to get emails from people all over the world.

I like what ultraradio is doing, a little ecletic at times but overall good musically. I don't however like they're layout. Any suggestions on web site services, I've talked to envisionwise who charges around $250 a month.

Are you going to "roll your own" and host it or are you in need of full service design and hosting? I know Midphase and for about $100/year you can host up to 11 different web sites. I'm sure there are other budget services out there. Stay away from Fatcow (if they still exist) they go down more than anybody else i had ever used!

Got your PM...thanks.

I'm currently looking at envision-wise I like their layouts and like what their doing...but its kinda expensive.

I want to be a fully functioning radio station on the internet that markets themselves to a local community.

Local internet radio - we do it at gulchradio.com and supplement our part 15AM The Gulch/KCRJ AM 1670. We are so local, we're named after the neighborhood our studio is in. Actually we try to be regional - Northern Arizona - so we cover the events, weather, musical tastes, etc common to our area.

Bonus is you get the rest of the world. When broadcasting live it's fun to check out where the out of area listeners are and throw in their time and temperture, and say hi.

Are we a success - who knows, we get lot's of letters ... and the folks boo-hoo if either the AM or internet goes down.

All in fun.

My stream is an entirely local/area product. It's a rather particular niche, albeit with a free-form feel, so one is not necessarily expecting flow but unpredictability. Lafayette LA area indie, progressive, rock, electronica are the main genres. There are no dayparts and the stream is non-commercial. If there is a target demo, it is 18-24 M/F.

The stream starts off with a liner/local psa/local promo and the music is largely uninterrupted. No "shows" yet, concentrating on the music. Podcasts are a part of the near future.

X1FM.com is marketing themselves as the Revolution of Change and Freedom Radio in San Diego. The music is good and they have live dj's like Chris Cantore, who is a San Diego 91X radio vet. I have been listening more and more and can't wait for chris cantore. ;D

We are the same as to what he is saying. Either you get it, or you don't. But either way, thanks for listening!

WCHE's morning show with Jay, and Randy is very local. However they pick up listeners from St. Louis, Tennesee, Montana, and San Fransisco. The show I do Friday's also picks up a few unique IP's .

I decided to split into two streams.

LIR Indie(Lafayette area indie rock, indie pop and electronica/dance)
www.live365.com/stations/audacious_fm

LIR Channel X(Lafayette area rock, prog/psychedelic, hard rock and punk)
www.live365.com/stations/lirchannelx

The streams are "imaged" a little more on the air at the moment with the brand split being pretty fresh. In a couple of months, I'll space the drops a little further apart.

X is being imaged with my voice, but I would rather have a female voice imaging X. Would be willing to do a talent trade for that. That could be ongoing, just in case either of us need to put something time-sensitive on the air.
