Local Music for WECK

Hi Gang:

I just posted this on wnymusic.com, and wanted to copy it to here in case any of you can help spread the word.

"We are preparing for the re-launch of WECK Radio (1230 AM) in early March. Although our format will be news-talk, we would like to emphasize the local flavor of our programming by exclusively using Western New York-created music in our on-air production, including "bumper" music in and out of breaks. If you would like your material to be considered, please mail or drop off a CD (no MP3s, please) to my attention (address below). The material can be in any style, must be original (no covers), should be as professionally-recorded as possible, and must be authorized for broadcast use without limitations. I will contact you upon acceptance of the material, so if you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them at that time. Make sure you include a contact name and phone number.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Tom Schuh, Program Director WECK Radio, 2900 Genesee St., Cheektowaga NY 14225"

Thanks!

So, it's official...

Good luck with the launch, Tom. May the music be the ringing of cash register bells. Ooops - that's really "old skool". Well, then again, we are talking about WECK...

Regards,

Rox

I have to say that with Tom Schuh in charge, I have to beleive that WECK will make an imoact in this market once the new format is unveiled. I can't wait to hear more details on what the news/talk format will consist of. Good luck, Tom. I know many on this board respect your work. So, we'll be pulling for you and Dick Greene.

Thanks. BTW, if someone is interested in submitting music, please send it to me care of WLVL, PO Box 477, Lockport NY 14094.

Radio is not a music business.
It's an advertising business.

Rent and bills have to get paid.
They're not going to get paid because some genious figured out how to come up with music that is local leading into the reason to speak into the mic.

Good luck.

I prefer music that *best* relates to the current topic when it comes to talk shows.

Wow. That's quite a post. I bet you're a real peach at a party! Maybe you've been staring at the snow a little too long. ;D

You're right about the advertising business - but if playing local bumper music gives the station an edge that ultimately brings in MORE listeners - then the station will sell its advertising for MORE money.

Not to mention that local bumper music would be public domain content (i.e. FREE), saving a little Greene in the process...

I wonder if we'll be treated to bumper music from The Soul Barons?

Yep. Both excellent points. 8)

I wish Tom and WECK all the best.
