It's always interesting to read or hear on the news, stories like this.
It was Tropo in the following instance, not e-skip, but I thought I would relate....
In 1976, the news on WCIX TV 6 in Miami, read by Prescott Robinson, had a horrible picture with heavy bars across the screen. Robinson said something like, "If you are having problems seeing our signal tonight, it is not your TV. Channel 6 in Havana is coming in very strong tonight." At that time, WCIX was only on until maybe 1 am. I was blessed to actually see the Havana station for about 5 to 10 minutes, then *it* signed off---my first look at Cuban TV. (IIRC, this was on a rod antenna!)
Then in 1990, the same Havana 6 made our news again, but for a different reason, if I recall. TV Marti was almost ready to start broadcasting, and it so happened that WCIX was accidentally off the air for about 2 minutes. A beautiful picture of the Cuban 6 showed. (I saw it on the news....I was away during this moment.) I believe that many thought that possibly the Cuba 6 added some "juice" in possible retaliation for the Marti debut.
In Cuba a few years ago, just prior to the analog shut-off, reception of US stations one evening was very strong, and their gubmint had to tell their people that it was not some yanqui imperialista maneuver!
