Local News Day

It was news to me, but apparently today (April 9) is “Local News Day”: Local News Day
Included is a search function to find local news sources in your community. While nonprofit organizations appear to predominate, any organization focusing on local news could be included in the search results. Both websites and audio sources such as public radio are included. The sponsor is the Montana Free Press.

H/T to Stacey Woelfel and his “Last Editor” substack: Tomorrow is Local News Day

Woah I never knew this even existed. Yes there is a discussion about protecting local news content but its in the form of the current lawsuit between the State of California vs Nexstar over antitrust allegations. Also protecting local news is in the form of how the 2026 midterm elections are covered around the nation's especially in State Capitals.

Press Freedom Week Heres more I never knew it was even a major event about Press freedom in the same way about a Local News day. But then again its all an attempt to get the rest of the public to understand why good journalism is important to the public.
