Local News in E. WA is in a sad state

You're right. Canceling 9pm news in Omaha for The National Desk and syndication, that was an unexpected move. And I know KIMA's days are numbered.
I imagine if Sinclair goes even further and cuts KEPR news, they'll be asking Molly Shen, Mary Nam and Eric Johnson to pre-record inserts from KOMO for eastern WA. I can't see them going that far, but Sinclair has been cutting news left and right, so who knows.
That's big news for KVEW however! I've been watching them more than the other stations, they have gotten better over time.
Since Tracci Dial left KND...I meant 'NonStop Local' (thanks Cowles), the quality has gone way down. All young talent, even anchors, straight out of school. Nobody with more than a year or two of experience.

Maybe he was on vacation, maternity, or dealing with a family matter? TV folks are people too you know.
The future is consolidation of these smaller markets. We have already seen Spokane creeping in to the Mid-Columbia market. I predict by 2025 all local news in the Tri-Cities will come from Spokane. While I hope this is wrong, it seems inevitable.
When you think about it, that makes sense. A lot like how smaller communities such as Everett is geographically to Seattle, or Olympia is to Seattle, or Burien is to Seattle. None of these bedroom-to-a-larger-market-communities could ever afford their own local TV stations.
Forget KAPP-KVEW Local News... call it Apple Valley News NOW.
This matches Morgan Murphy's branding at KXLY and WISC with the 'News Now'. Interesting ploy with the call signs, and they seem to be cashing in on the 'Non-Stop Local' rebranding at Cowles' NBC affiliates. I still think 42 has the better newscasts nowadays, since Tracci Dial left 25. KIMA is its old tired self anyways.
The 'simulcasting' could be worse - Sunday night news at KTMF-23 Missoula originates from *KULR Billings* 350 miles away and serves the entire state. I know this because I was in Missoula over the weekend. KPAX spent about 1/2 of the newscast recapping the Missoula Marathon, and KULR/KTMF hardly mentioned it, as they covered the train derailment in Columbus and Gov. Gianforte's speech. The hotel cable was missing KECI, so I couldn't watch NBC Montana.

Apple Valley News? A made up title that virtually no area resident uses. What are they thinking? Good grief! I predict this will not not last for long. Just plain stupid.
I grew up in Yakima and everyone used to call it the Apple Valley. I now live in Seattle area and people over here sometimes call it the apple valley as well. I personally wouldn't have named the newscasts Apple Valley or Non Stop Local either. But I am waiting for KIMA-KEPR to do the same.

From what I recall, Cashmere was considered the Apple Valley. I believe there was an Apple Valley car dealership group which had several dealerships in Wenatchee/Cashmere, along with the Yakima area, but nothing other than that geographically speaking.
How do you like them apples?
Not as much as I used to. (Yes, I know the reference)
But the last couple of times I bought apples from Washington State, I wasn't able to wash what was probably insecticide off. Even after washing with a paper towel and lots of water, it still tasted like some waxy chemical on the apple skin. I even tried washing the apples with Dawn dishwashing soap and water. That helped, but it seems like you shouldn't have to go through that much work to get chemicals off of fruit.

Generally moving back, or spending time with one's family is code for: A) He was offered a buy-out to leave. B) His contract was up, and the company is unwilling to negotiate an increase. C) He's sick of being in Yakiscratch, will let his non-compete run out, and then start looking for a better gig in a larger market.
