Well last Friday, 10/14/11, WHTM (ABC27) debuted its local newscast in HD. Of course, last year WPMT (Fox43) and WGAL (NBC channel 8 ) began televising local news in HD.
I thought the recent flood coverage as provided by 43 and 8 in HD gave those channels a huge advantage with the HD visuals of the damage. It drove home the horrors of devastation that SD could not. But I digress.
This of course, leaves WHP (CBS21) as the lone local news provider still doing its local newscast in SD. In fact, at WHP, only CBS programming is in HD. Nothing else is in HD, not even Wheel of Fortune, Ellen, or Jeopardy. And from the sounds of things, local news in HD is not even in the forseeable future at WHP. Which really, is no surprise.
While 21 traditionally lags behind the other locals in technological advances, the continued SD newscasts are the most obvious example.
It's a shame, really.
Any thoughts??
