Local News in Houston (Where Is It?????)

So on the newscast of the big 4 stations here in Houston, there is nothing but coverage of a hurricane/tropical storm that is hitting Louisiana, HOURS AND HOURS away from here. Now i know there are a handful of people that reside here in Houston from Louisiana, but last i checked, THE HURRICANE IS NOT HITTING HOUSTON!!!!

So here's the memo to all of the news stations here in Houston: A little less hurricane coverage and a little more news about what's going on in my backyard please??

Just saying. Thoughts?

The local coverage has been excessive. Lead story yes, whole newscast, no. If the storm had hit Mobile (120 miles to the east) it wouldn't be getting 10% of the current coverage.

Probably has a lot to do with the Katrina evacuees and the links to Houston.

The DFW newscasts have done a lot of Isaac coverage also. Not only did KDFW/4 send someone down there but they've also gotten live reports from a female reporter (not sure if she's from the New Orleans Fox station or if she's a Fox News reporter). To me, unless it were hitting TX, or the hurricane was another Katrina-like storm, a local and 2nd reporter presence there is a bit much. Plus, when KDFW/4's news crews went out looking for DFW preparations, they only found 1 person in the Red Cross shelter in Dallas that had come up from LA. One. If there's a real story to be covered, it's to look at New Orleans to see if they are strong enough to withstand another hurricane, or what has really been done in the area since Katrina.

There have actually been a few minutes left over for some local news in DFW, but much of the non-weather coverage has been about trying to combat the west nile virus outbreak and the latest afflictions/deaths count.

Fox NewsEdge (the affiliate service) has doing live Nicole Collins hits from New Orleans while Fox 26 Houston has Melinda Spaulding (our primary evening anchor) and Isiah Carey doing live hits for the o&o's. Melinda used to work in New Orleans at WGNO, which I believe is why they sent her.
