Local NFL regular season telecasts 1970-1984 (asking for help)

This is going to be a tough one, but hopefully we can solve some of these.

Going back in time, several times during the pro football season, games were played that was not covered by one of the main networks (CBS, NBC, ABC), but were instead farmed out to a local channel for telecast. For the most part, there are one of three reasons why the big boys couldn't do the game(s). either:

1. They were not played on a Sunday afternoon or a Monday night. Or...

2. They conflicted with NBC's commitment to major league baseball to carry post season baseball, in particular, the World Series. Or...

3. Work stoppages or strikes that were bitter and caused disruption, notably the IBEW strike against CBS in 1972.

The following games from the period of 1970 thru 1984 either definitely fit or possibly fit these scenarios. I have listed - where known - the local TV channel call letters that televised these games, and either the theoretical or definite commentator crews.

What I am gently asking those with interest in this topic is that if you can turn any theoretical crews into definite pairings, correct TV channels, please let me know here, or by pm'ing me, or even by email at [email protected]

The definite channels and crews are in red bold (all kickoff times eastern).

I did not include an Eagles-49ers Week 1 game from 1983, played on a Saturday afternoon in SF because it was a full CBS production and was televised to CBS affiliates in the Philly and Bay Area primary/secondary markets.

I also did not include recent games (Chiefs-Dolphins & Steelers-Dolphins from 2004 and Titans-Dolphins from 2005) that were rescheduled for Friday night, Sunday night and Saturday afternoon respectively. Two of the games were televised by CBS to CBS affiliates in the primary/secondary markets and the other was a CBS production and was carried by 6 stations, 5 of which were UPN affiliates and one a CBS affiliate.

Please help turn "these names" into "these names!!" With your help, you'll be playing a vital role in the history of pro football on television!

Thanks for your interest!! ;D

Week 4, 1971:
10/10:
Oilers-Redskins, 1, local to Hou. Bill Enis, Dave Kocourek

Bill Enis was a local sportscaster on KPRC (NBC) who also did regional games on NBC. So this is almost certainly KPRC or NBC regional.

Week 8, 1972:
11/5:
Cowboys-Chargers, 4, local to dal. Frank Glieber, Alex Hawkins

Pretty sure this was KDFW (or CBS regional, as Cowboy games were televised statewide), possibly KXAS.

My comments are based on my memory, which may be fuzzy (I aged from 9 to 23 during that time frame), as well as from things I've read over the years about pro football. ;D

The first regular season game played under the NFC/AFC format resulting from the NFL's absorption of the AFL in accordance with the leagues' 1966 "peace treaty".

Week 4, 1971:
10/10:
Colts-Bills, 1, local to Bal. Jay Randolph, Kyle Rote (WBFF)
...
Week 5, 1971:

Is that now Fox 45? I've read in Broadcasting/Cable YB where WBFF took to the air in 1971.
Also, that Week 4 game was played on what was supposed to be the day of Game 2 of the Orioles-Pirates World Series at Memorial Stadium on NBC. Turns out WBAL-11 (then NBC, later moved to the Eye then back to the Peacock) could have shown that Colts game after all (the WS game was rained out and played the next day).
Week 11, 1972:
11/26:
...
Eagles-Giants, 1, Not Televised

Good thing from an Eagles fan's standpoint. Big Blue scored one point for every 1,000 people in Yankee Stadium that day. NYG 62, PHI 10 (source: The Pro Football Encyclopedia, 1978 edition).
Week 5, 1974:
10/13:
...
Steelers-Chiefs, 2, local to Pgh. Dick Stockton, Bill Currie (KDKA)
The same Bill Currie "The Mouth of the South" who in 1979 did sports at KYW-3 Philadelphia during its ill fated "Disco News" format. Currie (and a few others at KYW) were jettisoned with that format.

Week 6, 1975:
10/25:
Cardinals-Giants, 1, local to StL. Jay Randolph, Ron Jacober (KSD)

Week 7, 1975:
11/1:
Chargers-Giants, 1, Not Televised (the last NFL regular season game not to be televised anywhere)

Those games were at Shea Stadium, thanks to *major* major league scheduling conflicts. All four of NY's MLB/NFL teams played their home games at Shea in 1975, perhaps the only time two MLB and two NFL teams used the same facility in the same year. Yankee Stadium was being renovated. I saw in person the last NFL game in The House That Ruth Built before its renovation (Week 2, 1973, NYG 23, PHI 23). The Lindsay administration evicted the Giants from YS after Mara signed the lease with the NJ Sports Authority. The Giants played the rest of '73 and all of '74 at New Haven's Yale Bowl. In '75, the Beame administration welcomed the Giants back to Gotham, permitting them to play in Shea. In '76 Big Blue moved to East Rutherford. Gang Green followed in '84.

I also did not include recent games (Chiefs-Dolphins & Steelers-Dolphins from 2004 and Titans-Dolphins from 2005) that were rescheduled for Friday night, Sunday night and Saturday afternoon respectively.

Weren't KC-MIA and TEN-MIA rescheduled because of hurricanes/TS's approaching South FL?

Thanks for your interest!! ;D

You're welcome. ;)

Correction... 1997 edition.

Yep. the Chiefs-Dolphins game was moved to Friday night and it was available only at their immediate markets on CBS because traditionally Friday night is High School Football night. It wasn't even shown on the Direct TV Sunday Ticket.

This thread brought back a name I had forgotten, Charlie Jones. What a great football voice he had. One of the best network PBP guys ever IMHO, even though (to keep with the theme) he did independent work as well, I think he did Seattle Seahawks pre-season games in the 90's.
