Nielsen Media Research will bring Local People Meter service to Phoenix in April 2008.
This will replace the miserably outdated meter/diary system, in which household ratings are measured year-round using an electronic box, but demographic ratings are measured in using paper diaries just 4 times a year (during sweeps) - in a separate sample from the household ratings.
If the other Local People Meter markets are any indication...the over-reported ratings for big broadcast stations will fall and the under-reported ratings for cable networks and lesser broadcast stations will rise.
Advertisers who are sold schedules using sweeps-month data will finally see what they're really getting when those schedules run outside of sweeps periods.
