Local rad. coverage of Ford passing

I was listening to WTKK tonight about 11:50 pm ("best of Laura Ingraham") when suddenly there was an announcement: a special report from CNN. They joined it mid-sentence and the first bit I caught was something
like "moving from the Vice President's house into the White House" and then "...controversial pardon" and I
knew then that Jerry Ford had passed. About 5 minutes later, WBZ's Paul Sullivan mentioned it and I
believe Steve Leveille did the first couple hours of his show on the subject.

Back on WTKK, they stayed with CNN coverage for over an hour, ending at 1 am with the "John and Jeff
Show". WRKO did have Fox News coverage at the top of the hour but otherwise it was a Michael
Savage rerun.

Typical, they are nice for the first three seconds then start bashing him right away. "Well he certainly wasn't a great President, not even a good President ..."

He was a memeber of the Warren Commission/ Just where were those really old men on the grassy knoll when Ford died?

He wasn't voted into office; he had one job - to pardon Tricky Dixon.

If Bush and Cheney are impeached what do they plan on doing- appointing John McCain? Spare us!

The White House should go to our own Nancy Pelosi to insure that there are no pardons.

Ford did not deserve the presidency - he's a political anomaly who would have made
a better football coach. He will also be remembered for having lived the longest -probably because he did
little or no work.

And he was a Republican.

Did I mention that he was a conservative who pardoned a master criminal?

It is equally important to note that Mr. Ford was a right winger who forgave the unforgivable.

(Please don't move this thread to Off the Air, but I did want to mention some things I heard on WTKK
via CNN...And I have to reply to Varulven .)

Free Republic found a pic of Ford with a younger Rumsfeld on one side and, on the other, Rumsfeld's
assistant--a young man with lots of hair. Hint: don't go hunting with him. Yup, Cheney.

CNN by the way was saying that he was more of a moderate politically, the last "common man" to
be President. And yes, he was not elected (and I thought, yes some folks claim the same of
George W. Bush!). But they said that the pardon, while controversial at the time, was seen later
as necessary to calm the mood of the nation. Ford was even given a Kennedy Profile in Courage award
(or something similar), awarded to him by someone who felt at the time that the pardon was a mistake
but later, this man changed his mind about it.

Ted Kennedy. (Later, Mr. Kennedy was given an award by George W. Bush IIRC, and he went on to
bash the President during Congressional sessions. Ted, you "pardoned the pardoner" so maybe we
should pardon you for Chappaquiddick?)

Bush and Cheney, if both somehow impeached at same time, result in President Pelosi. But if Bush were inpeached and Pres. Cheney were to appoint a veep who were to take office upon Cheney's own
impeachment: well, hello President Romney.

Whip Inflation Now buttons.
Stumbling down the steps of Air Force One, resulting in many Chevy Chase ("...no problem!") parodies.

Betty Ford, who was described somewhere online as "liberal" and who did a lot to publicize/help research
for breast cancer and who started the Betty Ford Clinic. But in the minds of some out there, she married
a Republican and thus is a monster.

Infidel: CNN said that had he not pardoned Nixon, he may have well beaten Carter in '76. Also they said
that Reagan considered Ford to be his running mate in '80, preferring him to Bush I, but they couldn't
come to terms. It was thought it would almost be a co-presidency, and Ford would have wanted to
have Kissinger on board, etc. "Imagine if this had happened how history would be different", said CNN
(Wolfie Blitzer et al). Again, I'm just saying what I heard via WTKK, and while political opinions may be part
of this thread we should also be discussing how local radio covered it.

While I love Howie Carr, etc., I am not afraid to say that 'RKO dropped the ball (basketball or baseball?)
once this news hit. I don't know if they could have, say, gone into Fox news Channel coverage or
something (not local, but at least timely news coverage) but other than top and bottom of hour 'casts
it was a...Michael Savage rerun.

RKO doesn't care about you Raccoon, and you are their faithful listener.

To impeach Bush and not Cheney would be ridiculous as all the Dems in Congress and the Senate know that
it is President Cheney and befuddles the spokesperson Bush in that order. You think they would make a
symbol out of W when the real enemy, the hated one, is buckshot Dick?

Republican Dicks certainly have a problem obeying the law, but they have no problem taking away rights
of Average American citizens.

Amazes me, Bob, that you are so loyal to a party that has abandoned you, and a radio station that could care
less about you.

Join the Democracy, Raccoon Bob, become a Democrat. Despise Howie & Severin; be a true blue stater!

Please, what rights have you lost? You have more now than you did under Clinton.

Wait until Jimma Carter, the worst president in modern history who is directly responsible for enabling the throat-cutters in Iran, doesn't come down for breakfast -- the radio and tv coverage will be non-stop for three to four weeks. With Ford, you're lucky to get a few days worth.

Great advice for Bob. I'm sure he's really anxious to become a card-carrying socialist ::)

I was a Demo. once. No thanks...and RKO must appreciate me as I run the Howie live thread on Free
Republic.

>>card-carrying socialist

Via Jerry Williams: "Comes the Revolution, Comrade, we'll all be eating strawberries and cream."
"But I don't like strawberries and cream."

"Comes the Revolution, YOU'LL EAT strawberries and cream!!!"

>>so loyal to a party that has abandoned you

...the Democrats?

>>Severin

this should make everyone laugh: I had a dream last night where I was invited over to the house of
Jay Severin. He had a huge house, all decorative carved wood inside, and full of more books than
the Boston Public Library. He was talking to me casually as if I were interviewing him for something--
like if he were running for governor*. I sipped some delicious coffee and was saying to him, "Jay
this house must be worth $25 million; why would you give it up for a $10 million dollar house in
Manchester-by-the-sea?" (for the record, THAT house is more like $2 million)...around then I
started to wake up. And for the record I'm not all that fond of Jay or his show. But it was a dream
so anything can happen!

*--for the record, before I went to bed I was online and stopped at a site called jayseverin.org,
run by a Libertarian who criticizes Jay, and one of the pages is "Jay's Governor"...maybe that had
something to do with it...

a dream of Jay Severin? Bob, that's a nightmare and you know it!

Before I went to sleep I looked at this webpage:

http://imdb.com/name/nm0058581/

even straight republicans would be better off looking at Justin Bartha instead of Jay Severin.

As far as Infidel asking what "rights" were taken away from us under Bush/Cheney cabal, where do we start?

Wiretapping? First Amendment rights that Cindy Sheehan is having problems with; Guantanamo? Need I go on?

Justin Bartha for president. At least he's better looking than Ronnie Raygun
