Local radio DJ has DWI charge dismissed

http://www.statesman.com/news/local/local-radio-dj-has-dwi-charge-dismissed-1925953.html

"Local radio disc jockey Chip Brown, one of the hosts of the Bud Light Morning Rush on 104.9 FM who also appears weekly on television on YNN's "Non-Stop Sports," had a DWI charge in Williamson County in June dismissed against him in exchange for a lesser charge of having no tail lights on his car, a prosecutor said.

[EDIT]

So since when is a sports-talk host a disc-jockey??? :)

[EDIT-citation exceeds fair use standards.]

That shows you how far radio has fallen from the public perception. That's the only description Claire Osborn could come up with, since she probably heard her grandfather use it years ago. Radio? What's that?

Disc Jockey my a**. Disgraceful writing from someone who apparently knows nothing about radio.

I agree, but I think the public perception is that "disk jockey" is a generic term for any on-air personality or host. Even the on-air "DJs" at most music stations today aren't really spinning disks.

Well, I'm certainly willing to call someone who voice-tracks a computer system a "disc jockey" given the fact that both introduce music. But a talk show host? No way....I still call sloppy reporting.

Actually-- as someone who studied print news in college-- the newspaper headline has some pretty inflexible size requirements. You have to be within a character or two of the space allotted. "DJ" fit where "personality" or "talk show host" did not. I still recall the headline where the Brownsville Herald squeezed in the late breaking news that Princess Diana had died overnight. Above the tiny blurb was the headline "Di Dies."

ROFL! WHY does that not surprise me about the Brownsville Herald?

However, in this case, the term DJ is simply inaccurate. If there was a space issue, then an entire sentence of the copy should have been sacrificed to properly describe what this person does at the station.

The story was simply inaccurate.

What If You Were In His Shoes ?

It Is A Newsworthy Item By Standards I Guess.

Had It Come Across "The Wire" -
I Would Have Chosen Personally, Not Allowing The Story To Hit The Air OR Print.

Hey--- Don't Rip Me Apart.... That's Just My Opinion.

Okay, so I realize that this is a radio discussion board so whether or not Chip is a DJ or talk host or personality or whatever is probably the only point of this story that is relevant, however, the number of things about this story that should make you shake your head is quite high. Two drinks constitutes intoxication now? How many of you have had two drinks and gotten behind the wheel? Or twice that many? Why is it that everybody who allegedly has a little too much to drink one time has to be checked for substance abuse issues? Seriously? And, why is there any mention of DWI on his record if the charge was dismissed? I'm sorry but if you can't prove your case that he was intoxicated then too bad. Some of this stuff makes my blood boil. Sorry, back to radio talk.

No, that's OK. We need to realize that 1) two drinks CAN cause someone to blow a .08 depending on their weight, timing, any number of factors. And 2) if you're any kind of public figure and get pulled over, you're in the paper in the morning.

Just ask Jeff Ward.

For anyone, repeat, anyone, to have more than a single drink and then turn the key is a car is just plain stupid.

You can use Binaca and fail a breathalyzer test.

You can use mouthwash, blow into your Smart Start 'deep-lung' device, and the car won't start.

You can be a talk show host and be called a DJ.

As the world turns....
