special message to all the people in the loop locally thanks for all your help during the major wind/winter storm this past weekend....actually I should only thank WGY they were the only ones who were on the ball. oldies and the 2 stations with the byrd cnn and hits way to be local and late breaking I hope you got all your grand prize people... I know the owner wasnt caring the torch like he did years ago so it wasnt worth going wall to wall to help people in your market....good luck in sin city

Re: translation

I think what our friend is trying to say is that WGY did a great job in handling local duties during the recent wind storm that hit primarily, in the Northern reaches of our area.

Despite it's "dumbing down", WGY is still the only local outlet even remotely capable to handle emergency-type information gathering.

It's during times like this past weekend that the general public gets a whiff of what being voice-tracked or satellite fed can mean to a community!

The pathetic thing about some other stations, particularly a few in the GF area, is that they lack GENERATORS; either for their transmitters or their studios. Being on the air is a good first step to providing a public service, and most importantly, running those Presidents Day commercials!

You'd think they'd know better by now. It's the North Country, people. Power goes out all the time. No Juice = No Money.

WGY usually does an adequate job of reporting during severe weather, but even they fell short last Friday morning thanks to numerous technical glitches.

They were dead air for upwards of 45 minutes after the front went thru. Ironic since the FM's and WOFX were seemingly unaffected. Then when they did get back to actual broadcasting, the audio was in and out for the next couple of hours, from what sounded like a misaligned or windwhipped STL antenna. Good thing for all that digital equipment, eh? No telco or analog backup in place at CC, which would have come in very handy at the time.

WGY really should be prioritized when it comes to staying on air during bad weather and having some redundant systems in place to insure that would be a good thing IMO. When it's stormy, I don't care about listening to yet another voicetracked shift on the River...

We had lost power as well Friday, but not being a National Grid customer, our power was restored in only a few hours. WRGB broke normal programming and had more current weather info on, which is what we relied on during the storm.

> Reading "ClassieFreddies" post reminds me of the "This is your brain on Drugs" tv PSA series with the eggs burning in the smoking pan. Unfortunatlly there are no POSTING WHILE INTOXICATED Penal law sections in New York State Law. First of all, taking shots at past employers is way too easy on these boards, and something must be done to return Radio-Info.Com back to what it was originally meant to be. It has turned into a wine cellar for people to ferment sour grapes and unfounded claims can be made without signing on the dotted line. Cowardly sometimes is the very same as anonnymously. Entertronics broadcasting was on the air live with Dan Miner the day the winds ripped through the north country. Every 15 minutes or so shelter locations and phone numbers where being broadcast along with what people should or should not bring when they went to thier "LOCAL" shelters. I'd bet money that the studio line was buzy as hell when people heard Dan's LIVE voice calling him for all kinds of stuff. Entertronics is a local company that has always kept the "LOCAL" concept on the top of the list of things that are important. Radio-Info needs to filter out posts that are not signed by the author and/or posts that serve no real purpose. For the record, I worked at Entertronics, but I left because of basic disagreements with management, however, if I have something to say I will sign my name. The nature of radio has changed because of automation and everybody knows that. When the "you know what" hits the fan, like real bad weather, you won't hear the instant radio reaction we use to hear when people were in the studios 24 hours a day but, give credit where credit is due WCKM was live and I'm sure other stations went live also. Gotta agree with dave...they are local and there are few truly full service local stations left. Now if they could do something with the awful "morning club"......
