Local Radio On Eastern L.I.: A Dying Breed?

So, let's see... on the East End alone, we have:

WEHM simulcasting on 92.9 and 96.9 FM
95.3 FM is a simulcast of WBAB (102.3)
96.1 FM is a simulcast of WKJY (98.3)
103.3 FM is simulcasting WSHU (91.1)
107.1 FM is a simulcast of 1050 ESPN
Even Christian WLIX is on a whopping four frequencies (94.7, 94.9, 96.5 and 104.5 FM)

And now, 104.7 is going to be a simulcast of 95.5 WPLJ in a few weeks.

Is this the start of a trend on Eastern Long Island? Are stations like Party, The Beach and The Lite On The Bays going to eventually be sacrificed in favor of simulcasts of other stations in the big city? That appears to be the direction radio in this region appears to be going in... and they don't dare touch WLNG!

104.7 hasn't been targeting Long Island in a long time - since the days when they were home to "Beach Radio." 104.7 was the original home of Classic Rocker The Wolf WMOS based at the Mohegan Sun Casino. When they flip-flopped with 102.3 which then was WXLM, they continued targeting the New London, CT area.
