Local radio station gets into the restaurant business

http://www.accessatlanta.com/blogs/...otalk/entries/2007/11/04/114_the_zone_op.html

Talk about diversifying your assets. Apparently, ESPN Zone and Fox Sports Grill were not enough already.

I wonder what it would be like if other radio stations in Atlanta opened up restaurants?

- WGST's and the other CC ones would have zero customers
- The Cox FM restaurants would serve stale food with a menu that never changes
- The ones owned by WSB and V103 would be the most popular in town
- The Fish, WGKA, and WNIV would require that you accept Jesus Christ to get in.
- The menu at the WMLB restaurant would have the widest, yet off the wall selection
- The Dave FM restaurant would have Atlanta Falcons jerseys on the walls, despite it being a place where singer/songwriters perform.
- Star 94's would have a sign at the door saying "Rap Music Prohibited"
- Kicks 101.5 and Eagle 106.7 do not start their own, but purchase Cowboys in Kennesaw instead
- WJZZ's would have an Oxygen bar

WSB's restaurant, "Deep Endonit" would serve lots of hot meals with little substance.
WGST's "Braves New World" would serve smaller and smaller portions, with nothing available in at night or
in the hours just before and after dawn.
Star 94,'s "StevenVickie," wouldn't have any idea what to serve for breakfast.
The Bull's " Bulloknee" would serve...you guessed it, baloney.

So let's see...790 is opening a restaurant.

Obviously, they'll be serving "2 Live Stew," "Beau Bock Choi" and "Mike Bell Peppers smothered in beer" to accompany "The Game on at Cheetah Strip Steak".

The seafood menu would feature "Steamed Nick Cellini Clams" and "Chuck Oliver's SEC-Food special, featuring 'The King' Crab." Either they'd have to offer "Steak Shapiro's Largemouth Ass" or change the walleye to Steak's "All I"

And while there would be takeout food during the day, you wouldn't be able to pick it up at night!

:D

WSB's would have the Clark Howard Daily Special which every single day would be the $1.50 Costco Hot Dog.
WGST would constantly be firing their waitstaff and say it is for the better.
99x would buy the Vortex and fire the whole staff and replaces them with 50 year-old waitresses and bartenders while still trying to appeal to the young tattooed crowd.
The Project would copy the Vortex but hire an inexperienced staff and claim their food is hotter and spicier than 99x's.
El Patron Nightclub would boast of high revenues yet no one would know anyone who has been there.

Found this in the blog section after the restaurant article by Rodney. Very funny.

From the menu…

Steak Shapiro: A fatty cut of beef overdone in every way. Wrapped in generous portions of ham and seared to a crisp with metric tons of self infused hot air.

Perfectly complimented by any whine.. Guaranteed to make it’s name sake belch repeatedly with his microphone open while on the air."

Hey, I like the Costco hot dog ;D... but I do splurge for the pizza instead.

Don't forget the $0.50 Ikea hot dog. That's got to be tops on Clark's menu!

I did when I first went there, but it's oh so darned tasty!

Hilarious thread!

"- The Fish, WGKA, and WNIV would require that you accept Jesus Christ to get in."

...but you'd only be required to tip 10%. Waiters can't get more than God.

I wonder why 790 made this decison for one reason. What do they now tell the restaurants that they want to advertise on the Zone? We are going to promote our own restaurant, but we will do just as good a job for yours too?
I know that the 790 marketing machine is as good as anyone in radio, but this makes little sense to me.

From what I've been told by people at 790, they don't own the restaurant. They sold the rights to associate the restaurant with their name to a high-profile restauranteur here in Atlanta. It's possible the station has a minimal investment.

"I know that the 790 marketing machine is as good as anyone in radio,"

True that. They are masters at marketing, which makes up for the idiots running the programming when bottom line time rolls around. I also suspect the more "partnerships", the more free tabs for all the boys. I love the way they make a mockery of payola standards. More power to them.
