Local radio thoughts for what it's worth.

I am not in radio. I am just an avid listener.

Some thoughts.

Bob and Tom need to go off the air here. Sounds old and not local relevant. Just doesn't connect and their bits are way old school. And they are so lazy that they pack their shows with comedians to "do the work."

Maxwell may be the only good thing on Cleveland radio. Funny on the edge and local. Move him to Mornings. He may not want that pressure and "be in the sights of the target" but tough. Pay him the cash and let him do it.

Rover's Show. So not smart and pathetic in many ways. So been done and by better people. His failure on the national level proves that. There were tons of these type of radio Stern clones ten years ago. Kid Chriss, Rover etc. Just travel and listen. Some of the residue is still there. Rover isn't dumb--he needs to clear out his show and rethink where he is going over the next 5-10 years. Stop catering to the dumb audience. Raise it up dude. You're not 21 anymore. And we don't need dumb stuff on the radio anymore. You have too much competition with the web, etc.

Wilde and Fee. OMG. Not much to say here. I guess mom's dig it. But please stop with the little kid interviews and all the soccer talk. Ridiculous. Nobody cares! Interview bands, break out new music, talk less. Much less.

NCX Morning show Mudd Mihalik and Mike? Medicore. Don't care for Mihalik. She's not funny and tries way too hard to be that. It's soft, but for that audience, perhaps okay. And it is Cleveland, so better than BT at what used to be the Buzzard---man they so should have made that THE Classic rock station not NCX.

Oh well.

Peace.

Nice thoughts, I agree with many of them....

Mudd, Mike, and Mihalik......awful, in a car crash kind of way for me. You'd think after a year they'd start to gel, but all three still sound extremely awkward on the air. I like listening to Kim as she tries to be funny, and to Mudd as he drags out the station ID after a song because you know he's got nothing better to say. Was he ever good, even back in the day? They do have an interesting guest on every now and then though.

Maxwell is probably my favorite, even he has an off day every now and then. But as far as being funny and not sounding forced at all, he's got it. Really the only thing WMMS has going for it personality-wise. The rest of the day is as boring as unsalted pretzels. From what Maxwell was saying on the air a couple weeks ago, he is #1 men 18-34 and something like #3 18-49. Congrats.

Rover, I agree is capable of so much better. But people in this town seem to like RMG the way it is, so perhaps he is just content to ride it out before he blows anything up. Imagine how much better that show would be if his side-kicks were actually funny and had an IQ somewhere in the triple digits.

On the A.M. side, I actually got to listen to Rizzo on the Radio the other day, and was really impressed. I don't often get to tune in because of work, but Tony really sounds solid on the air. Very entertaining. Maybe if I listened all the time I'd get sick of it, who knows.

As a college grad in his 20s, I really just wish there was a rock station in town that played a huge variety of music while featuring smart and funny people on the air. It just seems that everything out there targeted towards my demographic aims for the lowest common intelligence denomenator. Yeah, yeah....I know....Alternative Rock type stations just don't work in this town, or anywhere else for that matter. Blah Blah Blah.

Interesting.....Nobody dissed Lanigan & Malone, which means they either like what they are doing or no one's listening to them. :'(

Oh really?

You even said it: "I guess mom's dig it." THAT'S all that counts.

"Break out new music".

On a Hot AC station?

What. Ever. Not every station is meant to appeal to everybody. It's called a "target audience" aka "P-1". Stick to the MEN-targeted stations, which you appear to be their P1.

Yah, right. Nobody's listening to the #1 12+ morning show in Cleveland.

I haven't heard enough of Lanigan and Malone to have an opinion, guess they really dont' target my demo anyways, I should check them out just for the sake of it though. My dad listens.....he likes them.....so I guess that's one person listening to the #1 overall morning show.

While I do admire Torq107's sentiments about making a morning show more about the music, I really can't imagine the soccer mom audience being very captivated by an exclusive in studio interview with Fall Out Boy or Gwen Stefani. You really never hear bands on the air doing interviews period, even on alternative stations....though Silverchair was just on K-Rock yesterday. I think Silverchair is a decent band, but even I tuned out after about 20 seconds.

OhReally (I admit it, I love that name), you hit it on the head. Different strokes for different folks. W&F have a following, and they set up their format to appeal to their audience. End of subject.
