Local Radio

I was recently in Anacortes and listened to (egads!) KLKI on the AM band. Even more horrifying - they are basically Music of Your Life which is really Music of Dead Generations. Anyway - I was struck by how well they do it. Very local - lots of personality both from the sat jocks (Gary Owens among them) and local talent. Lots of talk and info about Anacortes and Skagit County. Local news, local sports, local ferry traffic...did I mention local? So how come a Class IV in a small market can do what the big boys in Seattle have a hard time doing - running a relevant local radio station?Hats off to long time broadcaster Bill Berry for running a tight station - even if most of the music pre-dates most readers of this board.

That's easy. Bill owns one station in Anacortes - not a cluster that has investors who have to be kept satisfied.

Well if you read what others on this board say about what KIXI (similar formatting) did in the ratings recently, it appears the "dead generation" is holding tight to the life support wiring.
