Local reaction to TV Shows set in their area

"Who's the Boss?" was set somewhere in Connecticut.

I would think Miami residents would be proud that a wide number of NBC produced sitcoms were set in Miami Florida. (Golden Girls and Empty Nest to name a few).

I wonder how Chicago residents react to "Family Matters" being set there?
 
We are ecstatic! Almost as good as M Squad, Newhart, Good Times and MOST of the Untouchables. However, Oprah makes my busia really happy.

And for Chi-town...who can forget the 1970's "Bob Newhart Show". Wish TVland would air that occasionally!!! Great fun.

EDIT: I see hammondo mentioned Newhart above, but that was actually a different show than the Chicago show..."Newhart" was New England, "Bob Newhart" was somewhere along Lake Shore Drive, (or nearby! :) )

But with all those kids (7 of 'em still lived at home), you'd think that ONE of them would have a radio on and tuned to either KROY or KXOA, ala the scene in "Midnight Cowboy" where Jon Voight has Ron Lundy's voice coming out of his transistor while listening to WABC on the way to New York. Does anyone remember hearing a KROY or KXOA jock coming out of one of the kids' radios?

Maybe the people behind Eight Is Enough wanted to use KROY or KXOA in the background and actually approached their stations only to have them say NO. Doubt this was the case but it still could be a possibilty.

I know of at least one situation where this DID happen. Not a TV show but in the Patsy Cline bio-movie "Sweet Dreams". When the movie was made in the fall of 1984, the movie people wanted to use WINC-AM 1400 in Winchester, Virginia in the background of the scene where Jessica Lange and Ed Harris ( Patsy Cline and hubby Charlie Dick ) were dancing to the sounds of a dj playing Sam Cooke's You Send Me in a parking lot of a local bar. That would have made sense since Patsy herself got her start at WINC radio. However the movie people picked Joe Pasquali as the dj. However just before filming was to begin Joe was fired from WINC and got a job at cross-town competitor WVAI-AM. It came down to either for the movie people to get rid of Joe Pasquali or they can't use WINC. HBO ( who was behind the movie ) stayed with Pasquali and WINC missed out in being featured in Sweet Dreams.

I believe it was "Judging Amy." Although I have to say, I definitely wouldn't mind "Chasing Amy"...Amy Brenneman is HOT. ;D
 
Watching The Wonder Years on ABC when it was on in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I always thought it was set in San Francisco or at least the Bay Area since the city was mentioned more than a few times (a new kid moving in from there, taking a roadtrip there--but said roadtrip also went to St. Louis, New Orleans, and New York City). The "Brightwing" episode where Karen was headed toward SFO made me think that the show took place within a day's drive of "the city by the bay." Karen's politics were pretty matching of it, too! On other boards the consensus is that "TWY" took place in Anytown, USA, and no city in particular.

I thought it was supposed to have taken place on Long Island (or some other commuting suburb to NYC)?
