Local talk shows

If I'm listening correctly, there aren't any local talk shows weekdays between 9am-noon in Harrisburg, Lancaster, and York.

Since WSBA moved Gary Sutton to mornings, nobody has anything local in those three towns between AM Drive and Limbaugh.

I guess there won't be any as long as Glenn Beck occupies that slot.
 
Bottom line to this is the syndicated talkers have the name recognition,
get the ratings, and can command a good rate and most are barter.
It's just a matter of economics ....why pay local talent when you can
get ratings , increase revenue and cut expense with syndicated programming?
 
Reading's got one. "Feedback" from 9 to 12 every morning on WEEU 830 AM, but that's not really "Central" PA. But it's close. They regularly have this one dude who calls in every week from Lebanon.
 
Why bother with local? There isn't a local topic out there that appeals to the stay-at-home crowd, and TV talk shows have done pretty well at snaring that group with weight loss and cooking. Hot talk and local controversy don't do too well at 9:30am.
 
If you stretch out a little further than Harrisburg, Lancaster, and York, you can get a local guy on 1090 WBAL - well, local to that area as in "not syndicated".

Also, if you are able to pick up 880 WEEU, Reading/Berks county, they feature local shows.
 
Younger people do care about only the local that affects them.....traffic and weather and maybe what's happening in the area this weekend. The days of talking about the local sewer bond issue is over. That's another reason syndication works.....

Younger people today with their ipod in their ears, updating their Facebook page on their smart phone don't know what AM radio is!
