Local Talk

Hello all and happy new year.

I put up a post back in the spring about my excitement of moving to a large radio market and the offerings it would have compared with coming from Cincinnati. My excitement turned to disappointment though, especially on the AM dial. I had been listening to 'GST (HORRIBLE - my WLW signal from Cincinnati comes in better) until someone told me to try WSB.

I have been listening to them since, almost exclusively. I still flip on WLW from Cincinnati though on the way home from work at night because they have a local talk show.

I have to ask again - How can a market like Atlanta, not support a LOCAL talk show on a station like WSB at night? Boortz is okay and I am becoming a listener, but do we need to be RE-Boortzed at night? Geez. Heck put me on the air, I'll get some dialogue going about local and national issues. Just a local, call in show at night would be good - one that is not repeated!

Thanks!

They used to let Royal (Boortz's board op) do a show at night. It was good and entertaining. I don't know why they pulled him.

If you're not a native, here's the deal. Let's say you live and work in Marietta. You don't go inside the Perimeter much. Your kids play soccer and football in high school. You care about what happens to your kids, your neighborhood, and your job, all in Cobb County. Even though what happens in Atlanta has a huge impact on you, you don't know it - the city is just something to laugh at when the sewer pipes collapse or the mayor is indicted. Same story for the hundreds of other communities around Atlanta. No one cares to listen to a local Atlanta show because it's irrelevant to them. Music does fine, and having ditto heads exploit your deepest fears may keep you listening to AM, but Atlanta talk is pointless.

I'm guessing that you don't work in the Building of Death, because you understand the Atlanta market and its listeners way too well.

Im Sorry I had to respond to this post. I think Atlanta talk would be real meaningful if we did have some more local shows. Boortz is o.k., and I mean o.k., But it's not the whole bag of chips either. As far as being re-boortzed at night its a total waste. Neal's show is really just full of meaningless, back and forth banter between he and Belinda, and Royal. It's amazing just how much he really thinks we care about his trips, his plane, his cash..How about some local show like Paul Gonzales used to have back in the 80's? <P ID="signature">______________
