LOCAL winners...and MORE

So Q92 stresses they have LOCAL winners. And WKDD does not.

Actually, WKDD has had 3 winners of $1,000 this week.
Out of 36 chances, WKDD has had 3 winners from the Akron area in 4 days.
Plus, they had a $25,000 winner in the last Clear Channel contest
I don't see Q92 giving away $25,000, or even $1,000

I'll bet Q's listeners are on the edge of their seats for whatever great promotion you are running this week, JStew.
Oh, and I heard Matt Patrick was out at a remote in Alliance the other night. Word is, your staff members frequent this diner on a very regular basis. Yet they still chose WKDD for a remote. And, I heard from a friend, that several Q employees were actually eating at the restaurant while WKDD was broadcasting live. Hmmm, trying to see how a remote is REALLY done, JStew?

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Not that I care one way or the other for Q92. but weren't these p***ing matches about Q92 supposed to stop a while ago?

TAKE IT ELSEWHERE, GUY.

We don't need it, nor do we want it here.

TimL's right: this was supposed to stop. So STOP IT!

Stop picking fights

TimL is right. I love reading this board, but enough with picking fights already.
We all know Q92 is disliked in here. On another note, we all know A Tyler hates Trout at Hot 101. Get over it. Let's talk about the medium we love, RADIO... not the people we hate. Don't forget to dream up some more of those crazy radio rumors- format flips, selling off stations. I love it!

I guess this puts me in the minority guys, but I don't mind the post. Yeah, there's some "attitude" to it, but more than anything, he/she is commenting on what they heard Q92 - a NE OH station - and that's what this board is for.

Personally, I think posts like this drive hits to the site sometimes; it certainly makes things more interesting. Yeah, it's gotten out of hand in the past but the mods (XL for example) do a good job of cleaning it up if it goes overboard. "Banning" this subject is kind of 14th-century-thinking is it not?

I don't know...it's certainly better (to me) than the one zillionth post about "when is Jack coming to Cleveland" or the bland (to me) "here's a link to a site with tower locations on it". You've got the freedom to not click on a post; skip over it. To each his own. But speak for yourself rather than saying:

What? You mean to tell me that pointing out a bad promotion done on a RADIO station in the area that this board is intended for isn't talking about the "medium we all love, RADIO?" My dislike for the man aside, people talk about promotions, good and bad, all the time on these boards, so why should it be any different to point out something that WHOT does that makes absolutely no sense?

No need to pick a fight here folks. It's a non-issue.

WKDD is an adult radio station. Our target audience is not even in the ballpark of WDJQ's target.

If they wanted to pick a fight, they should go after WHLO. After all HLO beat the night show on Kool 92 in several demos on the fall book.

Tony, Amen! I don't mind the little barking back and forth either. Generally, the Q92 stuff does get too much play. However, you had a great comment when you wrote:

This board, recently, has gotten so overloaded with the following topics:
-Jack coming to Cleveland
-DX-ing
-and the biggest topic, "WKNR"...how to fix it, what's wrong with it, whatever.
Like you said, if you don't like it, just skip over it.

Aaron's got a point, folks. You wanna start limiting posts on a board designed for a topic as silly as radio in a medium where actresses' heads are cut and pasted to other women's nude bodies (talking the Internet, here)? And the copyright talk...also funny, 'cause again, it's the Internet. Removing the freedom of speech?!?!?...why...call someone at 1350-AM!!!!

Other than Keith, who remembers that radio is supposed to be fun (nah, dude, you don't want to pick a fight by referencing Kool 92, do ya?)? Did all of the voicetracking-causing-people-to-lose-jobs and crappy only-in-it-for-the-money-so-all-we-need-you-to-do-is-learn-to-read-liner-cards-"broadcasting"-schools remove said fun?

Plus, yes, Jack will suck until the record biz figures out why songs from the 70s still get major airplay on a regular basis yet songs from the 90s don't. It's called good music and not format-dictated horsedookie, to which I say that Lee Abrams is Satan, and if you don't agree with that NOW, you will when he fools you all again and starts putting commercials on all of the XM music channels. Really, the Jack discussions are more than snooze inducing, but hey, at least they're not provoking or offending anyone...and they're just not fun, either.

Now, will someone get out there and kick Mix 94.1's butt? Please?

-Certainly not bitter or anything,
Brady

Ah, Its nice to see theres such love in our business! LOL.....Guys...take note! To the majority of normal people, radio is just a portion (small portion might I add) of their lives....they don't live and breathe radio like some do here. They are more concerned if they are going to have a job tommorrow (ie...see anyone from the Hoover Company)or if they have health care to cover their medical needs. We have to get over this we are important to the masses attitude and focus on what really is important, giving the public a moments respite from what is becomming an increasingly stressed out world! Off soapbox!

Peace out!
Tom Sullivan

This IS a Radio Forum

> We don't need it, nor do we want it here.

Then don't read the thread.

All this post is doing is calling out a station. That IS fair game on this board.
Yeah, it's about that small-market-CHR-that-never-will, but this same station spends more time bringing the attention of OTHER stations to their listeners. And they can't even get that right. And it's THAT station whose PD comes on here during his moments of mental instability (or so it seems) and starts on several tirades, which includes calling people morons and what-not. When you do that, it shows you let criticism get to you. You just bring it on yourself...it makes you vulnerable. Let's not forget their GM as well.
This same CHR has been doing this crap for over a year now and it's obvious their demo neither cares nor find this appealing. Their ratings prove that.

And the two percent or so of radio listeners who actually participate in contests stand and cheer..

I go to other radio station remotes on a regular basis..and WKDD puts on some of the better ones..real organization is something to take note of when its done well..

I find myself agreeing with Mr. Sullivan..the vast majority of radio listeners have far more important things going on in their lives..and radio provides an audio mosiac for them..its our job to entertain and inform..as best we can..

Now as far as kicking Mic 94.1s butt is concerned..I'm wondering if NextMedia is getting ready to sell their butts..some of the comments made at a recent media conference in New York, avaliable at www.nextmediaradio.com, under investor relations and ''other news'', were most interesting..I leave it to you to form your own opinions..

Tom's so-correct it isn't even funny. But, radio hobbyists or younger folks either in or trying to get into the business take radio SOOOO seriously. The average person uses radio like an appliance...when they need us, they use us...and that's about it. That may not be what radio fans/radio people want to hear, but that's the way the public thinks.

Glad to hear you're doing well, Tom. We worked together in the 80's. Hope all is great.

Re: Stop picking fights

"The average person uses radio like an appliance...

Wait. A radio is an appliance!

Noun

appliance (plural: appliances)

1. A machine or device with a specific use or function, especially an electrical one used in the house.
______________

It's the Q92 people that this post WILL bring out: thier aforementioned PD and GM tend to appear and refute these things with just the type of vitriol and personal attacks (and name calling) that sends the board into the toilet.

It would be better to just leave them alone--DON'T post the "light" and the "moths" won't be attracted to it. That's all I'm saying.

Just trying to maintain the civility on the board. It's been pretty good lately, and I (for one) would like to see it stay that way. For what NOT to become, look at News/Talk.
Edited by Johnny Morgan on 06/13/05 12:30 AM.
