In being new to this area, can someone please give me the info on local AM radio shows in Winston-Salem?? Any live sale and trade call-in shows here???

The only real "local" for Winston-Salem is WSJS-600. Brian Freeman does the "Triad's Morning News", followed by J.R. Snyder doing "Live and Local." They also do a 2-hour "Trading Post" program on Saturday Mornings. The rest of their day is syndicated talk, with CBS and local news, high school football and weekend computer, auto and financial shows.

Three other companies run operations based around Winston-Salem, but are more regional/national in scope. WXRI-91.3 is Southern Gospel-Formatted "Joy-FM" with some of the shows from the local studio. All of the Joy-FM's, located in the southeastern US, are on non-commercial educational channels. The other semi-local operations are the Hispanic "Que Pasa" and "La Movidita" on 1040 and 1380 respectively. I know they have local studios and local announcers, but since my Spanish is so poor I have no idea what they're doing.

Several companies run AM stations in Winston-Salem as religious outlets. The largest of these is WTRU-830, owned by Truth Broadcasting. Aside from morning traffic and a few local ministry programs, all of their programming is paid religion. I suppose you could call Stu Epperson's "Truth Talk Live" a local program because it is produced by the station's owner in Winston-Salem and syndicated nationally. Truth Broadcasting also owns WSMX and WTIX, at 1500 and 980 respectively, but these are new acquisitions for them and I don't receive them over here to know what they're doing with those stations.

Also owned by Truth Broadcasting is WPOL-1340, which simulcasts with a station in Greensboro and airs the syndicated "The Light" Gospel music programming. I don't think they do anything local but paid religion.

Triad Family Radio owns WBFJ-1550, which is wall-to-wall paid religion. And rounding out the dial in Winston-Salem is WPIP-880, which is a ministry of the city's Berean Baptist Church and features the world's scratchiest records and some really conservative paid religion.

I don't think I've left anyone out, but I believe that's it for the Winston-Salem third of the market. All of the other stations only mention the city at ID time, but broadcast from Greensboro or beyond.

Later . . . .

3 o'clock in the morning...Yeah.. You can run down the hall and ask Lou or Mahoney..I think LXN has it on Saturday's , but you already knew that.. Gee, I still can't figure out which cuz you are?? Stacey wouldn't be up that earlier and Scott or Brandee don't give a damn...I think ya thought you might get a little self promotion as in the THZ Olies post.. By the way, how come you didn't answer my questions on the other post about if you have been posting for years, you only registered in 2008..Nice Try.. Get em..Sniff and Atticus!!!! ;D ;D ;D THE BIG APE!

In the event that "AM radio" = "morning radio":

Isn't the morning drive host on the new 106.1 FM going to be local?

If it's AM=Mornign, then there are a lot of live and local shows like Bob Campbell, Aunt Eloise, Steve Harvey, and many others like Bob and Sherry, Max and his wife, the Whicker show, Duskty Dunn, FBI, and many others that I don't even know about, if you can believe that I don't know something!!!!!!! ;D ;D :D ;) :-* :-* :p 8)

Bob Campbell??? I suppose I have not been paying attention, but I didn't realize he had resurfaced. He kind of got the shaft from Gig and Tom and the rest of the gang at that LARGE Lexington station.

Sniffthamic...get your head out of the sand and put on the headphones! In addition to Campbell being gone from 94.1 for months, some of the others you mentioned are long gone as well. Pam has not been with Max in years. She was selling Volvos, the last I heard. Max replaced Campbell at Majic. Jeff Wicker is gone from Simon. Sean Sellers is heading-up that morning show, now. And, Dusty Dunn retired months ago.

Ahhhh Jockdude, it's not nice to push reality on someone just before Christmas. Poor sniff, this just might send him into a tailspin!

Last time I heard him he was filling in on WNMX. I don't even remember when they had a live DJ in the afternoon.

That station was still standards. They switched in 2006. Well, their satellite service did. It was the same satellite service, but no longer standards. I know it was before that. Then they were oldies during 2008, and they switched to Mexican this year.
