This message was posted in the same group as a possible trail of information.

Great recording, really takes me back, dedicated KOL FM listener back then.

Not 1960 however. KOL FM didn't broadcast until '61, and simulcast AM for
quite a while

This recording is from the "underground FM" days, which started in June of
68, I believe - Loved the reference to Robert O Smith - HA! The Seattle
papers used to goof on him by listing him as "Rubber Dough Smith" in the
radio program schedules.

"Music from the Mudfats!"

High effing times...

I can't get it!!

How big is the file?

46.8mbs 128kbps mp3...

RapidShare is awesome! Just shuttle down and click FREE then enter the security code on the next page. Make sure any pop-up blockers are turned off for the time being. After the time limit, you should get a pop-up asking you to save the file...

This is 50 minutes long – and if you have the time it’s a real neat listen.

For those that have lived around here in the Late 60s and Early 70s KOL-FM was something special. This was Seattle's first "underground" FM station located at KMPS's dial position. Likely modeled on the success Tom Donahue was having in California at KMPX. Their market share was small - and while they were commercial, they represented much the same spirit that non-com KEXP does today. Later, KISW came along with "Rock-n-Stereo". In 1974 KZOK launched with initial aspirations of carrying on the KOL-FM torch, but ultimately veered off into AOR-land. KZAM did have a somewhat similar approach in the late 70s.

This un-scoped air check is a nice slice of Seattle’s counter culture scene of the era, with mentions of the Eagles Ballroom, Campus Music etc… And did I hear something about The Helix in there?

I don’t think any song on this 50-minute time capsule is played on classic rock stations these days. I’d love it if someone could name ‘em all.
:)

What's the security code??

Looks like you have to PAY for it...

Negative...

Just scroll down and click on "FREE"...You have to wait a time period. Usually 40-60 Seconds. Then the next page will come up and after you enter the 4-digit spam filter, if all pop-up blockers are disabled, a box should pop-up and ask you to save a file.

I use Firefox and it works for me.

Yes, but where's the 4-digit 'spam filter' code located??

I can't seem to find it on IE 6...

It is a standard one? (post the 4 numbers here)

... or does it change every time upon login?

Thx!

It changes every time. The security/anti-spam code gets shaded in a box right above where you have to enter it once you've waited the time limit. Then click the download button and a box should come up.

Sorry about the confusion.
