LodgeNet Stock: Crappier Than Their Lineups

After seeing the crappy lineups these people have provided on many a hotel stay, I will NOT miss them! Good riddance! :)

If Lodgenet does go belly-up, any chance that actual hometown cable lineups (even if a DTA is required) might actually reappear in hotels? Or could another vendor of lousy cable lineups be waiting in the wings?

I really hope this will mean more DTAs in hotel rooms. I was in a Portland Hampton Inn back on Labor Day Weekend and got to see DOZENS of channels in HD, all the locals from Portland (including seeing America Now for the first time ever via KPDX, since the crappy lineup at the Comfort Inn Portland Airport does not offer 49), and the DirecTV remote.

Possibly, but I imagine the same thing that happened when On Command bought the farm will probably happen this time around--the selection of channels will stay the same, they'll put a static "Welcome to XYZ Hotel - Press channel buttons to watch TV" card where the menu system would otherwise have been, remove the video game controllers and paint out the logos on the remotes. Hey, it's a possibility. That's what they did with the (not very old) OC gear at the Red Lions that I've been to since then, anyways.

These hotels have undoubtedly invested a great deal of money in the headend and terminal equipment, especially the little independent "mom & pop" hotels that actually sprang for such things. (Probably just pocket change for big hotel corporations--the cost of the equipment would probably evaporate within a couple fiscals.) If it still works and there are people around who still know how to service them, why throw it away just because the company that made it AND/OR sold it to them has gone out of business?

Darth, I was in a Red Lion once (local one in Bellevue), and that On Command stuff doesn't pop up. Just a crummy lineup provided by DirecTV. About 40 channels, and no KZJO-22 IIRC or KSTW.

This is an opportunity for DirecTV to get even more "direct" to the hospitality market. They look like the favorite if LodgeNet were to sell. And, like I mentioned in my 2013 predictions, add DMX Music to the mix and there's a new "DirecTV Business Solutions" unit.
