London Bridge

in fergie's new song, what is it talking about?? i do not understand the symbolisom, with the london bridge????

I heard it on Z100 and the minute it came on I turned it right off.CHR-Pop these days play TOO MUCH RAP and NOT ENOUGH ROCK. We need rock. Please the radio is full of rap every song is basically rap now.

It's not really rap per se (one friend of mine likened the style more to that of Kelis' "Milkshake"), but I understand and agree with what you're saying. However, since I don't see it as rap, I do like the song, and I think it's a good add.

I don't understand the London Bridge analogy either, though.

EDIT: This just gave me an idea: how about a Milkshake vs. London Bridge mash-up? London Bridge's vocals against the Milkshake instrumental. How could would that be?!

Screw waiting for that to come out, I'm doing it right now! ;D

Okay backseat programmer, you show me GOOD rock product that will actually test well with my F18-34 core and I'll put it on the air. Until then, go put all the rock you want on your IPod and rock out to that. I'll stick to the records that test well and are being requested by my listeners / selling in my market.

okay you are right. Rock doesn't really preform well on top 40. Still it's barely given a chance. Hell we were lucky Panic! At The Disco was given a chance!

As far as the song goes, I think the shrill horn got on my last nerve. Sounds like a mix of Kelis's Milkshake and J. Lo's Get Right. And, well, I can't stand those so I don't really like this one either. And Fergie doesn't sound all that great on the record either. And I think she should've added Will.I.Am as a guest artist, it would've just sounded better.

As for the rock on CHR thing, I know a ton of rock tracks that females 18-34 would like. Have you heard of Hot AC? Well that aims to females too and that chart is loaded with pop-rock from Nickelback, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Goo Goo Dolls, Kelly Clarkson, John Mayer, All-American Rejects, James Blunt, Blue October, and on and on.

to me Kelis's Milkshake was way better than this track

Goo Goo Dolls- No longer relevant to mainstream Top 40. Adult Top 40 / Hot AC, absolutely.... Mainstream, no. By the way, Hot AC is a 25-49 format.

Kelly Clarkson- Played constantly by mainstream Top 40. Hopefully you're not so stupid as to be making the claim that mainstream Top 40 ignores her.

John Mayer- Hasn't had a mainstream Top 40 hit since Bigger Than My Body. Don't try to claim Daughters as a hit, because it was one of the more prevalent songs of the payola scandal currently being pursued by Elliot Spitzer. His material is best suited at Hot AC and it's not even doing that well there lately.

All American Rejects- Dirty Little Secret and Move Along were both Top 15 hits at mainstream CHR. Again, I hope you're not so stupid as to claim they're being ignored?

James Blunt- You're Beautiful was played by most mainstream Top 40 stations on the Mediabase panel. His most recent release was a stiff from the word go.

Blue October- Granted, I do believe that Hate Me is a song a lot of mainstream Top 40s slept on. Mine did not, but it would be in the minority.

Nickelback- I'm sorry, but what was the last Top 40 friendly they released to radio that was ignored? Certainly nothing off of this album.... Photograph was one of the biggest songs of 2005 and early 2006, Savin Me did very well in most markets, and Far Away will do well with time.

"And on and on...." - Examples, please?

Anyway, about London Bridge, I also personally hate this song. It doesn't make any sense and I also find the horns annoying, and the "Oh Snap" in the background every 5 seconds...HOWEVER, I do see this song going far, simply because it is the first solo single from Fergie, who basically took the Black Eyed Peas to where they are today, which is pop-chart dominators. Top 10, at least.

I think that Rock could work just fine, but I just have to point out one thing. Goo Goo Dolls, Kelly Clarkson, James Blunt and John Mayer are not Rock. Calling All American Rejects a Rock band is a bit of a stretch, too. All of these acts fall into the Pop or Pop/Rock categories.

What are you people smoking? This song is huge! Number one phones for over two weeks at my station. If I only added songs that I like personally, I would have been forced into retirement long ago. And do I really have to explain what "I wanna go down like London Bridge" means?

"London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down......."

I don't get London Bridge either. Either way, Fergie doesn't sound so good solo.

Now I'm gonna be sick. I just heard this song Again on 94.1 the beat WQBT a Savannah GA URBAN aka RAP Station! A CHR/pop top 40 ok CHR/Ryhthmic.. Maybe HOTAC Possible. This song does NOT belong on an Urban Station.

if you think about it she isn't really solo on this song.....Will I AM is in it....so it's really not that different from any BEP song
