Lonestar 92.5 Day 1 Music Rundown

Gotta give these platter people credit. I worked at that station for Bonneville in
1992-93 and it was a huge peice of shit. It nevr got better, they kept rearranging the deck chairs with a 10 feet long rip in the tin steel hull. It has never done better than a 3 share - There has been a turnstile on the door of the PD's office. Everyone that came in after John Larson was going to be a hero. Play Green River more, play it less...Should we play Steve Ray "Pride and Joy", What if Dillon's Dungeon was a live cut...shit this rocks what what they're doing now - nuff 'said

That's the kind of decision they should have made prior to the flip, not after.

I agree completely. Evidently, Redbeard didn't get in the office until Monday...sounds like that was when he started working on the playlist.

Our Mandatory FM crew would be more than happy to consult them on the music they SHOULD be playing.

Hell, I'd love to spend a couple of days with Redbeardshowing him what is out there. I wouldn't even charge for it!

The station is very "bearable". It reminds me of the old Progressive Rock-Progressive Country stations of the early to mid 70's. Its not boring, because you never know whats coming up next. Let's face it compared to all the other stations in DFW,its getting more press, more discussions, than any other station here has received in a very long time. There are more pro comments not just here ,but elsewhere than con. I am very surprised clear channel came up with it and I hope that common sense has fianlly found a home there.

Sadly, most of the negative comments I am seeing are coming from people that haven't even listened to it. "I can't stand country...I'll never listen to them again!" Thinking they are going to get pop country...

I'm a little bit country, and a little bit rock n roll. But not simultaniously :)

Day 4 Update

New Artists added (No Classic Rock): Glen Phillips, Randy Rogers Band

Some songs aren't making being identified by the online tracker I am using. However, the Black Crowes are being counted with 9 plays for 8 songs yesterday (Twice As Hard repeated). Sometimes Savlvation was added. Nine Black Crowes songs have been played at least 3 times in the first 4 days. But they haven't played my fave, Wiser Time yet...

X-Country on XM has become one of my favorite channels, but I HATE Nashville product country, and I'm a classic/progressive rocker by heart, but have been tired of the classic rock radio 'list o' songs' for a long time now.

It seems the X-Country playlist or similar would have a good model to start from.

Notes:

I heard the Atlanta Rhythm Section at the 1978 Texas Jam, and they were cool to listen to.

I saw Poco warm up for Golden Earring in 1974. They were cool too.

In the 80's I saw 38 Special at the Texas Jam. They rocked. Outdoors, they sounded so cool ! !

Is there any room for Gordon Lightfoot ? ? I'm talking stuff from his "Endless Wire" album.

And Michael Murphey and his "Lone Wolf" album....

See... I've been around as long as Redbeard, and I have great suggestions for stuff, even though they weren't the chart toppers ! !

When I think of "Southern Rock" that I want to hear, I mostly think of The Allman Brothers.
Songs like Jessica, and --not-- "Tied To The Whippin' Post". You see, aas a favor to those of us that have already heard that song --many-- times, it would be kinder to us to emphasize other great songs, and play that song only occasionaly.... You respect the song, and the listeners, at the same time. I know this can be done.

Redbeard & Co say they will be wielding complete control. We'll . . . see.

Too much Black Crowes.... now that's a little disturbing...

Even The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin have Country flavored songs ! !

Rover: The point being is give it at least a month.see what Redbeard,Dillon,Bo& Jim will add to the mix. I feel you will be prsetnly surprised. i was a doubter at first, especially with CC in charge, but It looks hopeful. At least its far better than a "movin","Free" fiasco.

I would like to see yes.com use the RDS data for tracking this information. Their current SoundScan method has too many flaws. Songs get missed / incorrectly identified on a regular basis.

They've been missing a lot of songs KZPS has been playing, they need to get better

This could be due to KZPS’ overall format. If they are playing numerous deep charting / album cut / etc type songs, these songs likely aren’t in the yes.com database. The hard way to fix that is for yes.com to go through the process of getting the signature the SoundScan system uses to I.D. the song, into their database. The easy way is as I suggested above, assuming KZPS transmits RDS data for their songs. I have not looked, so I don’t know.

I would l-o-v-e too see accurate songplay data that could be accessed with totals for days, weeks, and months. In this digital age, I as a consumer have a right to know with easy access, what songs were played and when !

That way, you can judge a station, by what they are actually playing vs. the talk they talk.....

Do we have to get the FCC to mandate accuarate song reporting for the general public to puruse ?

BTY, 92.5 stpped put and played a live song tonight.....

Oh wait, it was "Sweet Home Alabama"-Live..... That's not steppin' out....
that's about as "safe" as you can get !

Then then played something a band called "Slobbermouth" ?
Anyway, this band sounded just like the music that you hear produced on commericals. It was "commercial" music in a different sense of what you would call commercial music. Like I say.... when the music turns into commerical jingles, then, you've gone to far !!

I also heard a live SRV version of "Are you Experienced" today. They are stepping outside of the box a bit. I have also heard the Allman Brothers Jessica about five times in the last four days. My TSL during the week hasn't been that great but I've listened quite a bit today. They got on a Lyle Lovett kick this morning and I've heard at least four different songs by him.

Love what I'm hearing and I hope they really do expand the play list. I've been having 1977 flashbacks since they started this. They haven't all been pleasant.

I have lived in the DFW area since 1987 and have listened to KZPS quite a bit over the years.

In my opinion, the previous format had become very stale and boring. There seemed to be a complete lack of imagination - the same tracks being repeated over and over and over and over...

I could never understand why the playlist was so predictable. Why would we always hear only "All Right Now" by Free, when Free had several albums with some excellent tracks on them. "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull is a good track, yes. But why did we never get to hear anything from their first album "This Was."

"Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd was played over and over again , to the exclusion of all of Floyd's other catalog. And there are numerous other examples.

There was never any sense of surprise at listening to this station. It was all so predictable and unadventurous.

And they wondered why people didn't listen to it!!

The term "classic rock" as it is fed to us by these radio corporations means a playlist of 500 songs repeated over and over year after year until we are all heartily sick of them.

At the moment, the new format sounds pretty good to me. Anything could have been better than the old one. But I"m pessimistic, because I think most commercial stations are programmed and managed by nitwits.
