Lonestar 92.5 Day 1 Music Rundown

The variety has been nice. I've heard some 'old friends'... I always wondered if anyone would play pre-joker Steve Miller, then i heard Livin in the USA and Space Cowboy. Now if they could only find Your Saving Grace and I Love You.
Likewise, I always wondered what ever happened to Allman Bros Live at the Fillmore, then I heard In Memory of Elizabeth Reed segue into Beer Bait and Ammo. Huh! I heard I never Saw Skynard (or something like that) with the word S@#T loud and clear. Hm! Wish they'd learn the joys of Bob Wills (liberty sessions '63 would work) or at least Asleep At The Wheel. Shawn Phillips? Bubblepuppy? Doug Sahm and The Sir Douglas Quartet?
How 'bout Roy Clark 'Live in Vegas'? OK, not the psychegraphic, but I can dream, can't I? Keep it fresh, and I'll keep checking it out. No promises to stay, and I won't be reporting to any ARB surveys, but I'll be rooting for it to work.

I can see a trend here.....

I'd like to see a list of, per day... how many songs talk about beer/being drunk/getting drunk vs.

Getting High

(I think the beer companies are going to dominate this big time ! ! -- But "Beer" is establishment, and I am anti-establishment !! :D)

If only Pharmaceuticals could have muisc to support them.... Guess Not !

This Lone Star 92.5 continues to amaze. I never thought I'd hear Jimmy Buffett's 'Lets Get Drunk And Screw" on a commercial station, as I did Monday evening. And the Marcel Marceau Mini-concert at 8:05pm was an odd touch. Still, I really enjoyed hearing Sugar Mountain by Neil Young. What will happen next?

The question is how many other people love Sugar Mountain. Will the casual listener or the dude just surfing by go "WOW!!! Sugar Mountain, how great is THAT!!!".

More likely they'll go 'what is this S**T"...

And don't get me wrong, I love Neil. Had Live Rust in the CD player a few weeks back... But will they guy rocking out to all those drinking songs want to hear plantive solo Neil?

Yes Little, that's one way to look at it...
Or someone may be so amazed they tune in again just to see if anything else so uniquely pleasing pops up...

It doesn't matter if they say, "Sugar Mountain, how great is THAT!!!" or if they say, "hmmm, this is something I've never heard" as long as they don't say "what is this crap!"

Well, we need to hear some more local talent. I submit Bugs Henderson. He has been wialing his guitar in these parts for over 30 years now ! !

His website is now up, and you can learn more about this Dallas Legend at http://www.bugshenderson.com/.

Some of my fav Bugs Henderson performances are:

SHE FEELS GOOD

ROCKET IN MY POCKET

GOT MY MOJO WORKIN'

LOST IN AUSTIN

Agreed!

I've sat mesmerized 10 feet in front of Bugs on many, many occasions, for a cover price that's always insanely cheap. If you haven't seen him live, please do yourself a favor. "The Shuffle Kings" are criminally underrated - they should be getting airplay nationally, not just in their home town area, which they very rarely get.

I'd add "Live and Learn", "Judi Likes the Blues", and "Lyin' Eyes" to that list. Go buy "Daredevils of the Red Guitar" for a good starting point if you haven't heard his stuff.

Then get the rest of them, like I did.

I have also suggested they add some Monte Montgomery to the play list. An acoustic guitar God out of Austin who plays the Granada quite often.
Others:
Gary P Nunn
Steve Fromholtz
B W Stevenson
Rusty Weir
and on and on and on...........................

And.... Shawn Phillips .... See his Website

And for the Rock side of Lone Star.... lets break out those CD's of BLOODROCK's first two albums. . . . .

There's two from Ft. Worth worth looking in to.

They've added a couple of tracks from The Vaughn Brothers this morning.

so basically, if you can't get completely hammered and watch re-runs of COPS while listening to LONESTAR, then something is wrong with ya'. ;D

Yeah, I'm diggin' it too. Namely when you give me back-to-back Allman with SRV... I think I may have to make a radio button selection out of this thing if they keep that up.

Some tracks from Lindale, Texas' own Miranda Lambert would be great to hear. Her new album is excellent.

The only female artist that I have seen being played so far on Lone Star Radio is Lucinda Williams, and that is a rare occurance. Others such as Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash and Shelby Lynne would seem like a natural fit. I am afraid that the new KZPS is avoiding female artists because they think that the male demographic that they are targeting would be adverse to it. I disagree with that assumption and think it would be a shame to miss out on playing some great music. Again, it might have to do with the 'mullet rock' stereotype that male listeners get in the D/FW area.

They've been playing Delbert McClinton recently, he's just good.

While I'm happy about the return of Redbeard, not sure I'm enjoying his Tom Petty obsession.

I've enjoyed listening to the new 92.5 format for the same reason I use to listen to KHYI: hearing stuff I've never heard. Like others have suggested, 92.5 deserves a chance. But playing songs too frequently will kill it. Bo & Jim are good, so I hope 92.5 survives for their sake.

I miss the 80's hard rock, but the Bone only delivers music after the lame morning show is over, and even then their definition of classic rock does not equate to that of other classic rock stations.

Thank gawd I live way north of Dallas and can pick up 102.5 in Sherman/Denison...excellent classic rock format.

Ditto on Tom Petty.... and I would add John Cougar Mellancamp..... and Bob Seger......and Steve Miller to that overplayd list.

Too much of them, and I croak ! !

------------------------------------------

93.3's Classic Rock playlist is the tired, lamest one I have ever heard! (or "Best" if you like their definition of Classic Rock.... obviously, the @#$# masses must be serverd !! I'll sleep better tonight knowing they were catered to....)

--------------------------------------------

Right now on 92.5 - HD 2 they are playing "Kings & Queens" by Aerosmith, which is pretty amazing, since you would not expect a good deep cut (Some would say "Hey, why didn't they play "Dream On" or any of the MTV stuff ? ? ? ? ?) I, for one, am glad they didn't!!

How about playin' some humor and political & social commentary tunes from...

Southern Culture on the Skids ~ http://www.scots.com

Dan Bern ~ http://www.danbern.com

Todd Snider ~ http://www.toddsnider.net

They have been playing Snider and I think I have heard a SCOTS tune or two, but can't swear to it. Not that they have gone out on any political limbs with their rotation. They seem to be afraid to venture too deep in to the "other than rock" tunes. They have chosen about 20 of those songs and that is all they are rotating.
