Lonestar: What SHOULD they play?

I've seen a lot of posts knocking Lonestar 92.5 for the songs they play -- I almost posted one for the amount of British artists they play. Nonetheless, we all know they play too much ZZ Top, Skynyrd, Mellencamp, etc. Let's turn the tables...what ten songs (or artists) do you think Lonestar SHOULD be playing?

Here's my list of artists (there are a lot more but these immediately came to mind) in no particular order:

1 Lyle Lovett
2 David Allen Coe
3 Robert Earl Keene
4 Buddy Guy
5 BB King
6 Robben Ford
7 Los Lonely Boys
8 Steve Earle
9 Janis Joplin
10 Willie Nelson

Roots...Rock...Country. 'nuff said.

All 7 people who like all those artists should be enough to drive their ratings through the roof...yep, sure thang...

Here are some more...
Shawn Phillips (born in Fort Worth)
Bob Wills
Gatemouth Brown
Paul Glass
Eric Hokkanen
Christine Albert
Bubblepuppy
Buddy Holley
Omar & the Howlers
Denny Freeman
Of course, Little One knows, you should only play the hits... cause people are too dumb to understand a concept. They only listen to songs that have sold millions of copies, or BEEN HYPED BY A CORRUPT RECORD INDUSTRY....

I'd much rather hear these folks than the tired ass Mellencamp, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Creedence, Bob Seger etc., etc. While you're at it, play some Randy Rogers, Ragweed, Stoney Larue, 1100 Springs, Reckless Kelly....you know...the bands people PAY to see around here.

I'm just pointing out that look at how well playing the 'non hits' has worked for Lone Star so far. They've hemmoraghed about half their audience, significantly contributed to massive job cuts at CC Dallas, and have had to shelf their "GENIUS" marekting idea of running without spots because the advertisers weren't on board/they couldn't make enough money to keep the station viable without them.

People GET the concept. Some rock, some country/outlaw/alt-country/whatevr. They get the idea. But the ratings are showing that they don't LISTEN to it.

So if you want to work for a station that disappears after a year or 2, play what you want. I prefer some job stability. And if that means playing the hits, so be it.

What is the deal with KTYS playing some of these artists? They've been playing Charlie Robison, Bleu Edmondson, Billy Joe Shaver etc.

No...I'm pretty sure they don't play Buddy Guy, BB King or Robben Ford.

Lets add the Old 97's and Monte Montgomery to that list. Go look at the upcomming acts at the Granada to see a good list of folks they could/should be playing.

Here's what I'd suggest if I worked for the station:

Open up the phone lines and begin taking requests.

Let them know that if the station doesn't already have their request, we can download it from the Internet and have it on the air in minutes.

So simple ? ? ?

I don't think so....

You have listed artists that LoneStar should play. Your thread title would indicate what and not who.

If you're simply suggesting that LoneStar play the same old tired hits from even more artists, the I would say you're not on the right track.

But, you didn't specify that. Simply adding the artists without regard to what tired old hits they would or would not be regurgitating, is not enough, to give a station good direction.

The MAIN reason I dislike a station is for the SONGS they --DO-- Play, more than the songs they --DO NOT-- play. I'm pretty broad-minded when it comes to music. What I cannot and do not tolerate is the playing of the same songs over and over. THAT'S THE PROBLEM ! ! ! You can add all the artists you want, but if the simply play the same fwe songs by each of the "new" artists, then that's NO improvement.

I'd like a radio station to relate to me as a human being, and not a number for the drive home.... I'd like them to be my friend. And friends don't the tracks they play all of time for.. friends.

I would be put off, if every time I visited a friend, that they played the same few songs from the same artists. That would get be very annoying. I would not go by and visit that friend very often, or for very long....

Heres what LONESTAR should play...

CLASSIC ROCK KZPS 92.5
Its been so long i cant remember the old KZPS Classic Rock Jingles...

No, Rover. I wasn't suggesting playing the same ol' tired tracks. I, too, have a very eclectic taste for music. Looking at yesterday's playlist from 10A-2P, there are only four songs I would consider playing on my home stereo (they're in bold). Everything else is the same ol' Classic Rock garbage that we've heard a million times.
