Long Distance Reception This Morning

I received some heavy DXing this morning up until noon today. All of our low power locals came in perfect, bleedover on Rock 100.5 from WSSL, and other neighboring metro's radio stations came in. Does anyone know what are the ideal conditions for this to happen?

I seem to get it best when it's kind of foggy or overcast. Usually when we're in the winter months, I start picking up WGN and WBBM from chicago early in the morning and just around 5:30 in the evening.
