Long-gone STL radio outlets worth reviving

Since there hasn't been much discussion on the St. Louis boards, I'd like to restart the discussion with this thread.

On the discussion boards, there was some thread about long-gone LA radio stations that would be given a second chance at a revival. So I wondered if there were any stations in the St. Louis area that had ceased to exist that would be given a second chance.

For the record, my candidates for revival would be:
KFUO Classical 99.1FM
KXOK 630AM
97.1 Classic Rock
KZJZ 1380AM Jazz Radio

Has anyone got other long-gone stations they'd like to submit? :D

WKBQ when it was CHR. It was known as Q106.5 in the early 90s and later moved to a weaker signal as Q104 in the mid 90s.

The consultants at Emmis blew up the CHR format thinking it was a dying format, but all it really did was just open the door for Clearchannel to launch what has been a successful Z107.7 ever since.

I've come up with a couple more possibilities:

KWK-AM 1380 before it went off air for a few years
106.5 Smooth Jazz
KSD-AM 550 Newsradio format

Here are mine, and there are several:

550: KSD (AC) in the late 1970's
KSD/KUSA as a country station in the 1980's

1260: WIBV as a full service AC 1976-81

1320: KADI (AOR) 1975-78
KKOJ as a Top-40 1978-9

1490: WESL (R&B)

89.1 KCLC (Contemporary Jazz) 1983-90
as an NAC/Smooth Jazz station 1991-2002

89.5 KCFV (Modern Rock) 1981-92

93.7 KCFM (soft AOR) "94 CFM" 1978-9
KSD (AC) "KS-94" 1980-7 along with their excellent processing

96.3 KADI (AOR) 1973-81, and bring back the "Original Oldies Show"

97.1 KLTH (NAC/Smooth Jazz) as "The Breeze"
KHTK (CHR) as "Hot 97"

98.1 KSLQ (Top-40) from 1973-78

99.1 KFUO-FM

99.9 KFAV (CHR) as "V-100" 1991-1994

100.3 WZEN (CHR) 1980
WZEN (R&B) 1981-86
KATZ-FM (Jazz/R&B) as "Jazz 100" 1990-93

101.1 WMRY (AC/Jazz) 1983-5, (AOR) 1986-9

103.3 KMOX-FM (soft AOR/AC) 1976-81
KHTR (CHR) 1982-8

104.1 WKKX (Country) "Kix 104" 1985-91

106.5 KWK-FM (AOR) more for their processing than format
WKKX (Country) "Kix 106.5" 1994-2000

107.7 KKSS (R&B) 1975-8
KMJM (Urban) 1979-84

As a former St. Louis native I would offer the following stations for revival -- in fact, if I won the giant lottery ($300m+) I would see to it that these stations would be re-planted.

KSD am 550, KXOK am 630, KXLW am 1320, KWK am 1380, WIL am 1430, WTMV am 1490, and of course KFUO-FM on 99.1.

Then I'd pay to revert all the street signs back to MORGANFORD (not MORGAN FORD) as if its an auto dealership. Heard this all came about years ago when someone forgot the space when ordering hundreds of new street signs.

And long live KSD-TV -- first in St. Louis.

At least Classic99 is on the internet. Just type in Classic99

I'd like to see these stations come back: (my top ones in bold)

104.1 The Mall -Flashbacks of the 80s and 90s
Mix 93.7 with the "weekend mix"

Hit Radio 103.3 KHTR
1430 WIL Rock N' Roll at it's best
KATZ 1600 - Like it was in 1969
KXOK 630 (who doesn't want this back?)
FUN RADIO 95.5 (I wish I could play it for my son like it was for me)

Special note for getting:

Y-98 Like it was in the 1990's

How about Fifty-five KSD from back in the early 70's. Mostly oldies as I recall. Grant Horton, Charles Hefti, Carson Rennie, Scott St. James & Scott Burton are some of the names I recall, although uncertain about the spelling of their last names. Wasn't Bob Hamilton also on KSD?

The original Majic 108 fm

Boy do I miss Majic 108. From the mid-80s to the early '90s, I thought they were arguably the best urban station in the country. They played the new music, album cuts and the station had energy and solid jocks.

KHTR - bring it back with the same energy and lisghtening speed of 80's hit radio. The 80's format would work if presented like KHTR all over again.

630 KXOK (of course)

The KWK call letters anywhere.

An All News Format (24 hours) like KXOK 630 did for awhile in the late 80's.

106.5 Smooth Jazz or (100.3 KNJZ Smooth Jazz, or KZJZ 1380 jazz, Breeze 97.1, - or even the old JAZZ100 KATZ FM in the late 80's/early 90's)
